I remember a while ago someone posted the string-ray sneaker thing, I couldn't find the original thread, but yeah it had mixed reception here. The idea was neat but a lot of us didn't like the idea of killing a stingray for a pair of shoes. Turns out the whole thing was a hoax....

Okay, wait... So the idea here is that you design a shoe pattern, pay a ridiculous amount of money, and then a rayfish is modified so that its skin matches the pattern you made, then they kill it and make it into a shoe? I don't even.

it was too crazy of an idea to be plausible. it would take so long for a ray to grow to be large enough to make a pair of shoes out of, even if it WAS happening.
but im glad its DEFINITELY a hoax.

I knew it was a hoax the moment I heard of it, about a year ago. Would this really happen in the future? GM animals (even cattle) raised just for their materials...?
