I've heard it's going to be a darker take on the story. Maybe similar to the original Hans Christian Anderson telling. However, I haven't heard very much about it, so I could be wrong.

Carolyn Turgeon's mermaid book is being adapted this year, I heard there is another live action little mermaid also being done. Once upon a time will do the little mermaid too.
