I went to Michael's craft store today to get some stuff to start on my mermaid top, and I got several pieces of glittery "coral" looking things for 90% off as they're considered Christmas decorations, so they were $0.14 each!

I plan to seal them with some clear Rustoleum I picked up, so hopefully they'll stand up to water. I also got some plants, netting, and pearls.

I did go to the beach for shell collecting, too! It was super nice out and we even came across a hermit crab.

I'll be sure to update with top progress once I officially start it :)

Beautiful! I have a really cool idea in mind with those colors, too bad I don't have my colored pencils or I'd draw it

Did you ever get to do this? (:

I'm working on it, slowly but surely. I'm still working on attaching the netting -- it's a bigger pain than I planned on it being. Once I have some real progress I'll post a pic :)

Reviving a bit of a dead thread, but I finally made my top about a month ago. I didn't buy enough grass so I need to add some more next time I get to the store, and I ended up only using the white "coral".

On another note: the dye in the netting came off on my skin when I swam in a chlorinated pool. Has this happened to anyone else? I had to use makeup remover to get it off.

That is legit one of the coolest seaweed tops I've ever seen! <3

Wow! Very unique!

Wash your netting before hand... but... that might be difficult now. XD

OMG I LOVE THIS!!! Is it waterproof? Have you water tested it yet?

I swam in it once (about an hour or two) and everything stayed on. I used fairly minimal E6000 so I think I might need to reinforce some places a bit, but overall I'm pretty happy with it. I was in a bit of a rush so it's not quite as neatly woven into the netting as I'd like in some places, but it's fine for a while :) I don't have very high hopes for the coral lasting very long, either -- some of the glitter was already coming off even after spraying it with some sealer.

Thanks everyone! Glad you all like it.
