Have you ever seen the paint on a car that goes from (ex) blue and changes to (ex) purple when hit just right in certain lighting? Or how certain bird feathers change from purple to green in the light? Well, I was curious if there was some way to get this effect on a tail. I would love to be able to have my turquious scales on my tail change from turquoise to purple/pink in the light. Is there anyway to acomplish this effect? Maybe I'm just crazy? lol

I can't remember what its called but I know what you mean, you can get metallic paints which can have this effect and also sometimes if you layer colours of paint they can have this affect especially if you use colours like blue and silver :)

It's called iridescent :)

I know there are the magnetic paints. I know what you mean (nail polish does it?).

yep, you can buy iridescent paints. :) i think Pearl is the best iridescent paint (have you ever seen something that's white, but changes to pinks, purples, and reds? that was most likely a pearl iridescense.)

The car paint is called ChromaLusion and I think is made by DuPont. I don't know anything beyond that or if there's any way to adapt car paint to tails. Good luck!

I have nail polish that does that. I love it. It would be very pretty to have a tail do the same effect.

It might be achievable if you made the base coat of a silicone tail one color, and then put a thin layer of the other on top, in metallic shades, but I really am not an authority. The Mer-person to ask would probably be Jesse. Or possibly Raven, if you could manage to get ahold of her.

Layers of metallic paint definitely help, as with painting it thoroughly one color before adding more on top.

Also the "halo" colors of Lumiere paint have that sort of effect. you can see it through the bottle :) It's not complete color change but it's really a cool effect.

Car paint is pretty toxic. I wouldn't put that on a tail.

Agreeing with spindrift.

Best bet is to layer metallic paint, like jewel said. I've got a rose gold merberry tail that change into silver in light, and all she did was layer

Jaquard Pearl EX pigment. They have multiple irredescent pigments in that line. Don't know if it can be used with platinium silicone as the pigments are metallic, and certain metals will cause cure problems. It will work with ALEX and probably latex. (Not sure as certain metals can cause cure problems in latex as well.)

WEAR A RESPIRATOR WHEN WORKING WITH THIS PIGMENT!!! The particals are small enough to get into the lungs, and even though supposedly non-toxic, could cause problems.

I noticed that Createx comes in Irridescent and pearl and looked up to see if there is a difference between pearlescent and Irridescent. the best description I found was here.

http://www.dharmatrading.com/html/eng/7500002-AA.shtml (http://www.dharmatrading.com/html/eng/7500002-AA.shtml)

they are a Fabric paint shop so they really know their paint.
Just remember to Comparison shop for the best bargain price before buying any paint.

As previously said you are looking for either Lumiere Halo fabric paint or Createx Irridescent paint for latex/silicone.
