this popped up on reddit today. To be honest, I'm only sharing because of how neat it looks and imagining how it would work on tails- I'm worried about the actual chemicals in it :p but realllllly neat

Neat! I'd love to find out more about this.

Probably not even that dangerous. Hydrophobic doesn't mean harmful. Actually it's probably the
opposite, they're essentially harmless.

I saw a test that someone with hydrophobic spray did with chocolate syrup on a shoe! It was so
cool x__x

Also haha the oil sort of got the work glove all wet :'P

Scapey and I were having this exact conversation about how it would work on a tail last night!

I want to know if it'd be safe for use in your hair. I can't imagine it would be, but it's neat to think about.

I had a random thought while walking to class;

Make this stuff as a hair gel/ spray (and safe to use as such) with some sort of removal formula, and have mermaids put on their hair! How magical would that be, to get out of the water, and have your hair be dry? AND it would help keep it together in the water, so it wouldn't be so difficult to work with!

You could probably avoid the trouble of putting weird chemicals in your hair and of having to find a way to remove it by just applying it to a wig. That would be pretty awesome.

oooohhhhhh..... it reminds me of that sand stuff... you pour it in water and it stays dry. after you play with it, your hands get the hydrophobic stuff on them and then you can play with water without your hands being wet XD

This stuff is awesome! If it is safe to use, it could be a huge breakthrough in tail making.

Did a bit more research on the stuff. They do not have a transparent formula yet so anything you sprayed it on would have a matte white finish. The coating is also extremely fragile and scratches off very easily which might be a problem for a tail that gets a bit of use. Also, if you look at the shots where they show it underwater, the fact that it's repelling the water so well forms pockets of air around it basically meaning that you cant see the colors very well.

That just looks like fun to play with.

to be honest I'd love it for dealing with winter here in Canada. Boots end up not waterproof after a year or so and you need good ones. I can't afford to keep buying them every year or couple of years. We can buy water resistant spray but it always needs to be reapplied. I'd buy it just for that lol

Omg putting that in hair WOULD be an awesome idea xD
I actually read an article on a similar product (maybe it's the same people) and they said it
was silicon based and that you could use it on practically everything. They said they even tested
it on cookware and named that as an aapplication so I can't imagine it's bad for you or they'd avoid
saying things like that?

If they turned that into a hair gloss/hair spray and then provided a remover for when you want to clean
your hair, they'd make a million. People pay outrageous prices for shampoo as it is, if there was something
THAT cool on the market I'd go for it!

It also costs a few hundred dollars for a very small amount of the stuff.
