Hello all! I am another newcomer. It's nice to have stumbled on such an amazing place! I had no idea up until a few weeks ago that mermaiding was a viable hobby option for a regular Joe like me. It's mind-blowing!

Anyway, a little about me. I've loved mermaids since I was a little kid. I can't tell you how many times I pretended to be a mermaid in our backyard pool with a towel for the pretty "floaty" effect. A long time ago, I was a member of a swim team for little kids (think 6 & 7 year olds), & my favorite swim-style was the Butterfly-kick & ironically, that still is my strongest swim-style. Go figure. Of course, Ariel was my favorite Disney character & still is, actually. I even find it hard to resist visiting the Disney shop in our local mall every time I need to be in the building for whatever reason (usually movie-watching or my one-time-a-year jeans run). Of course, like any other mer-phile, I love Splash so much. I don't think I'll ever forget the first time I watched Darryl Hannah draw up the saltwater bath & unfurl her gorgeous tail. <3

On a non-mer note, I have a bit of an obsession with otters. LOVE THEM! I have a ton of otter plushies that I've collected through the years that I refuse to part with, so they get to hang out in a bag in my closet since I currently have no other place to put them. I am the mom to three cats, all of which have Catster pages to prove just how much I'm the crazy cat lady. I love music & languages. I especially love films in other languages besides English. My Netflix is pretty much all non-English movies. They just have a certain something that makes them so different from the mainstream movies in my area.

As for my occupation, I am employed with a large law enforcement agency, but I'm hoping that one day I can get out of that profession as I do not agree with a lot of the things enforced. I'm a bit of a free-spirit & I've lived a pretty hard life so I didn't have a lot of the opportunity that my peers had to experience things. I am currently making the time to experience a lot of what I missed out on now that I have reached a point in my life that I can actually afford to have free time. I'm a very compassionate person; I don't think that there is enough of that in this world.

I'm pretty cynical, but I can find the humour in just about anything save a few topics that are very personal to me. I use a lot of sarcasm in my day-to-day life, but rarely on the internet, simply because there's no way to gauge tone. I feel like a complete doof when I screw up on grammar. I'm a little OCD about it, actually, but I'm not one to point it out when others make grammar mistakes. I mostly just inwardly cringe.

I am so thrilled to be a part of this community. Thank you for this opportunity!

Welcome, Merrow! Otters are adorable, I agree that the world needs more compassion on others. One of my favorite sayings is, "If you have to choose between being kind and being right, choose to be kind." ;-)

I use a lot of sarcasm, too (IRL: "Oh, yeah, I'm NEEEVER sarcastic...psh.") but as you said, not on the internet. I'm the same way about grammar, however I find I make a typo in every post so I've learned to deal with it. I feel like a worse fool when I accidentally start or get drawn into a fight on the internet. *doh*

Anyway: welcome, welcome, welcome! I hope you enjoy our little community. Feel free to ask me any questions you have. I'm no expert but I've asked quite a few and may be able to refer you to someone who can help you more.

Oh, I'll absolutely ask questions, though I'm one of those annoying people that research everything to DEATH! That's a really good saying, Thalassa. I'll have to remember that. As for flamewars, I never participate but I am usually pretty content to sit back & watch the entertainment unfold. I hate being involved in drama of any kind, but I kinda enjoy watching it transpire from a very safe distance. :thumbs up:

welcome!! :D

Annariea, in my opinion, otters are the cutest thing on this planet! Cats & skunks are a close tie for second place. :p

Welcome!

Thank you, Danielle! I am really happy to be here!

Spottedcatfish, my heritage is Scot/Irish/Welsh so just about everything Celt-related is something I am drawn to. I wanted a name that would reflect me in a personal way & Merrow was perfect! :mermaid kiss:

Welcome :) Yeah sometimes sarcasm is really hard to get across on the internet :P And people tend to take things a bit to serious sometimes

Thank you for the welcome, MermaidBrittany! People are cranky in general. I deal with the worst of them on a daily basis. I think a lot of the drama that exists on the internet is created because people need an outlet for their pent-up stress; they need someone to talk to, even if it's screaming at them. Sometimes they get productive feedback, other times not so much. At times, life feels like a balancing act. It's very frustrating.
