I imagine that mermaids wear tail charms like we wear necklaces. I am making a little string of charms, shells, fabrc bits, and other mini little adornments that will fit around the base of my tail right before the flukes and clasp like a necklace. I think of myself being a very gypsyish mermaid always collecting and having odd trinkets about from sunken ships and treasures and whatnot.
I love this idea! I think it would be awesome to have a string of pearls, too.

I had considered putting a pearl strand around my tail's 'ankles' since the headdress I have is also pearls (glass pearls so I would not ruin real ones in pool water.)

I thought of this myself a while ago, but haven't done anything with it. I decided that 1) I've already got a butt-ton of accessories to put on and 2) that having something around my ankle movements would just get broken.

I've done a bit of considering into this, and I think I'll probably have glass beads and odd trinkets woven around the base of my tail. I'm kind of the same when it comes to the gypsy mermaid aspect.

I mostly swim in rivers, and I always enjoy weaving bits of broken river weed into my hair and around my tail if they float on by. But right now I'm collecting shells that wash up on the banks to make a necklace. If i have some left, maybe I'll make an 'anklet' for my tail. :D

I accidentally did this once, sort of. I was wearing a seeweed-looking net sash that fell right off my hips and down above my fluke.
loved the look, but not the drag. Something smaller would be way cute.

I have what I call a seaweed wrap. I got some fake seaweed and started at the top of my tail then wrapped it around and around until it flows of of my fluke.

On one of my tails I accidentally had two strips of fabric we added around the ankles because it was too short and it came out looking sort of like an anklet thing. I hated it but someone else said they thought it was cute. Looking at it now, it could Definately make for an interesting base for a design

I also love the idea of fluke peircings. Ever since I got to thinking about mermaids with tattoos I can't help but wonder if some mermaids would get rings in their flukes or other parts of their fins just like we get bellybutton rings and madison bars.

I could totally see this. Or a fish hook stuck in the fluke.

The two tails I'm making this summer are both going to have peircings in them. It's going to be fun figuring them out! :D

I'm not sure if any of you have this movie...

But I love the jewels on the bottom of her tail!
I am considering doing this for my gold tail when
I finish painting it and sewing it! What do you think? <3
