I don't know if this is the right place to put this, but since DeviantArt references are here...
Spanish illustrator Victoria Francés has recently released a new book called "El lamento del océano" (The ocean's lament). It is her personal tribute to "The little mermaid", but it is an original story (not a re-tale) about a mermaid and a young sailor. Of course, there are plenty of mermaids illustrations - beautiful to see, and I really liked the story. Here is a link:

I think it has not yet been released in English, since it came out last November (only available in Spanish), but maybe you would like to get it anyway.
