I've had the same YouTube account for.. gosh, 6 years. But I decided to make a new account since I'm going pro, with my actual mermaid name on it. (Even if that means leaving behind all 289 subscribers and over 700,000 views.. X_x *sigh*) I made a new one in the summer, but forgot to post about it!

Yep! The Crescent Lake one was done with a GoPro 2 that Derek used, and the fin stretching and kisses one are with the GoPro 3. They're only in 1440 though. I'm about to post a video in 1080, which will look much better :)

Don't forget that on YouTube videos, you have to click on the settings icon in the video window and select the HD settings that you want in order for you to view it that way. Otherwise it gives you a lower-quality YouTube standard automatically. I'm not sure if everybody actually knows this.

I should post more about the GoPro for anyone who is thinking of purchasing it! It's a great little camera, but there are some drawbacks. I'll post more on that later. Until then.. new video!! I'm especially proud of this one! It's in 1080p, so be sure to check the settings so it will play in full HD :) The music was just perfect, I especially love how the ending came together so well <3

This week I also got a LCD screen, extra batteries, and suction cup mount for my GoPro! So those will help me make better videos for sure! The Vancouver ones were done without a viewfinder and you can kinda tell :P

Few new ones! I went back up to Vancouver and visited Mermaid Bjossa (http://www.facebook.com/mermaidbjossa) (or Maple (http://mernetwork.com/index/member.php?88-Maple), as she's known on here). We had a great time :) I'm proud of this first one because I delved in and learned how to use my video editing software's color corrector- it took longer but it was worth it! Also she followed my lead amazingly when we were swimming, so I got a lot of great footage! I swear at least half that stuff we didn't even plan, it just happened that way.

Love the video footage, came out great. I have decided to get the GoPro too, but just wasnt sure if I should splurge on the Black edition. Once I realized it had no viewfinder and that that is quite a bit extra..sigh...I had planned to get it in time for the beach, but figured the water would be too cold to swim. I was wrong. I was a bit disappointed I didn't have it. LOL

The color can hide and change in different lighting for sure! I didn't use a tripod exactly, I used a suction cup mount on the bottom of the pool :) It amounts to the same thing though. That's the way almost all my videos are done (in the photoshoot video, the gopro was mounted on the photographer's camera) since I don't have anyone to be my camera man.

My tail looks it's best in sunlight for sure :) The sun was behind me in the video, so that's why it doesn't look as colorful as it does in the photos (where my hubby went to the other side of the fountain to shoot them). I didn't even realize the sun was an issue until I looked at the footage- oops! Gotta be more aware.

Nah, it was just me having fun :) Usually they are very uptight about, "No people in the fountain!" but since the Blackberry Festival was going on they put off the security completely and let people play in it, so I seized my chance! I got spoken to, to possibly be entertainment for the festival officially for next year though :) The main band they have is The Navy Guys where they perform in dress whites, and the festival is on the boardwalk, so it would be a good match to have a mermaid around. I'm keepin my fins crossed! I also made $15 in busk money, which was kinda cool!


Apparently I need to start uploading just audio to YouTube BEFORE i make my video, to decide on music.. all the music I end up using ends up being blocked on mobile devices, and it's killing my views -_- I'd like to use less "mermaidy" music and have some fun stuff too, but all of that stuff always ends up on syndication to not include mobile views because of copyright. :mad:

Ugh, YouTube and the copyright laws and issues are just so damn annoying. I dread if I ever put up any videos because I don't want to leave it music-less but I just...gahhhhhhh. Good luck with dealing with that...I wish YouTube could be more clear about the rules but I can see why it'd be hard. :\

New video! This one is just some footage I took while I was practicing for Paradiso. I figured if I filmed myself I could go back and watch and see what needed improvement. Needless to say my bubble hearts still fizzle haha :P I did a ton of turns becuase I knew in the tank I'd have to do them often, and in a tight space (I think the tank was 3 1/2- 4 feet wide?) so that's why there are so many in the video. I actually had hours of footage but thought the same stuff would get boring really fast, because it was pretty much a lot of stuff over and over again. So I had some fun with editing a little :)

Thank you Stormy! I actually had this video made a week ago, but my video editor refused to render it. I spent hours and hours and hours trying to find the problem.. I ran all manner of cleaners, diagnostics, disk repairs, ect on my computer and even uninstalled and reinstalled the video editor. :anger explode: Tried rendering all the video previews 200 frames at a time , exporting in different formats, searching for corrupt frames- you name it. With the pre rendering it would only do 200 frames at a time or guaranteed it would freeze, so I did it that much at at time- t took 5 minutes to do 200 frames, more times than not freezing part way through so each time I had to force quit the program thus losing whatever it was rendering. BTW my footage is 60 frames per second, so that means I was doing it in 3 second increments. 5 minutes for 3 seconds, and only half the time it would actually do it. :headwall: Finally I just had to export/encode each clip by itself one by one, then reload it into the program and re make the whole video from those. :doh: What a nightmare! I just realized today I spent a week on a video hardly anyone is going to watch X_x Ah well. It was a learning experience at least! Silver lining, right? ;)

On your comment about the mobile devices, just got a laptop and now I can watch your videos! Yay! I love how genuine you are in all of your videos, and your editing is wonderful.

It usually only takes me a few to several hours to do a video. I usually have 2 hours of footage to sort through, turn all that into clips, edit the speed, color balance (RGB shadows, RGB midtones, RGB highlights), brightness and contrast. Then chose music and put the clips in order, put in transitions, add watermark, make a ending photo and PNG for the subscribe button, make youtube custom thumbnail with the title in fancy fonts, then render and put it all on youtube with description. But for some reason cropping 1080 footage to take 40% off the side and 40% off the bottom then have it zoom to have the cropped bit still be 1080 just gave my editor freaking fits. That's why rendering those and putting it back in the project worked. There WERE some corrupt frames too. Don't know if you've ever had those but if you have them your video won't render. And at 60fps going through frame by frame trying to find them is just maddening.

So how is the GoPro working for you? I got the GoPro, the first one, and it's the most moody device I've ever worked with. It left such a foul taste that even when the new ones came out, I've been too scared to get them. Is the GoPro 2 or 3 better? I really want an underwater camera, but I want one that will work.

New video! I went to a meetup on Sunday- my first meetup in VA! I met so many wonderful mers! Finfolk Productions brought 2 extra tails for people to use, and I got to try on and swim in one of their tails for the first time! It fit nearly perfectly, swam wonderfully, and looked amazing! Made a video just for the footage I got swimming in it, along with the lovely Mermaid Viktoria, who also was very kind in being my camera woman :)

The meetup was at Lake Phoenix, which is a big dive spot! Which is also why the viability wasn't so great, the divers were kicking up stuff from the bottom like crazy! It was pretty cool though- there were lots of things at the bottom of the lake. A sailboat, a car, a bus, and trees! And it was warm, oh WARM WATER! After living in the Pacific Northwest for 4 years, you have no idea how happy I was to be in warm water!

Thank you! It was really tricky to color correct (SO GREEN, lots of lighting shifts) but worth it in the end :) Pushed me to finally learn how to use some other color correcting tools.

It wasn't very deep, I think about 15-20 feet down. Sadly I couldn't rest on the top of it, I have some ear issues (they won't equalize at all anymore, seeing an ENT soon cause there are other issues too) so I couldn't get down right on top of it. My ears would scream at me about 2-3 feet from the top of it. Boo :( Hopefully I can get the issues resolved (fins crossed) by next summer!

I kind of felt like a creeper with the video camera filming them while they were doing shoots with Joe (Hyli's husband), haha, but made for some good footage!

The ear thing has been frustrating. My breath hold says, "Go for it!" then my ears scream "Stop!!!" Urgh. I do have some hope, since this wasn't always a problem, maybe it can be fixed. I have other vestibular issues that developed too (like suddenly developing tinnitus, vertigo, and other things). I'm REALLY hoping maybe all I need is a professional ear cleaning. I wore ear plugs every night while sleeping for over 6 years (since I'm a night owl, and daywalkers are noisy :P). So that could have caused some blockage issues. But now I'm rambling about my ears haha :P

New video up! :) Silver lining to being demonetized on YouTube- I can use copyrighted songs again, without stressing about missing out on ad money! I had a lot of fun making this, and I've been wanting to use this song ever since I played Darksiders 2 years ago! I loved that I was able to match the feel of the song, and was able to line so many musical things up with the video with some editing work. Makes me happy :) And to all those hard working mermaid content creators still monetized on YT- yes, I still click your ads! ^_^

Thank you! It was in the Chesapeake Bay, specifically at a beach called Chic's Beach. In a few shots you can see part of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge behind me (it's a huge 4.3 mile bridge). :)

A ton of channels did. Like thousands and thousands. Anyone with less than 1,000 subscribers AND 4,000 hours of watch time in the past 12 months. This is due to the Logan Paul incident. YouTube didn't come right out and say it, but everyone knows that's exactly why. Tons of people have made videos calling YT out on this. His stunt scared a TON of big advertisers off of YouTube as a platform. They don't want their brands associated with content like that, and it's too much of a risk for them to stay on. YouTube doesn't have enough ads and ad revenue to go around, so they upped the requirements to be a YT partner. Same thing happened in April a year (or two?) back. Ads were found to be on extremist videos, so a ton of advertisers dropped YouTube. YouTube increased the requirement to 10,000 lifetime views, and everyone who was still a partner saw a big decrease in their ad revenue as well. After people hit 10,000 views they had to wait for approval, and some had been waiting for months when this new requirement got announced.
What makes it even more infuriating, is that Logan Paul has still not been banned from YouTube or from YouTube Partnership. Even after he released a new video of them tasering a dead rat, showing that he clearly has not learned his lesson and shouldn't be on the platform. Last I heard (last week I think) was YouTube had temporarily suspended the ads on his video. Not banned him from running ads, temporarily suspended. Why? Because he makes millions on YouTube, and therefore YouTube makes millions off of him, because YouTube takes 45% of ad earnings. So what do they do instead? They raise the bar so thousands of small channels can't make any money, but keeping the big players on the platform happy. It's ridiculous.

Have you heard of DTube? - which is a decentralised platform (part of Steemit) where users can get paid for not only making videos but watching and commenting on them too.
Perhaps something like this with less restrictions will be the future.

BTW, when I say the water was SUPER FREEZING- looked up the water temps for Dyes Inlet where that was, the max temp during the month we swam was 54ºF (12ºC)! 😱

A lot of cursing, apparently :lol: Also after a few minutes I just kind of went numb- we only stayed in long enough to get some video (this one (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y63NwIUeAqw)). I had signs mild hypothermia when I got out, but my husband helped me back to the car and got me warmed up quick! Wasn't the first time- I swam in a lot of cold water spots when I lived in the Pacific Northwest!
