Little Mermaid is finally coming out on Blu-Ray http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Check-Out-Little-Mermaid-First-Blu-ray-Trailer-35466.html

unfortunately, Disney has cancelled their plan to convert Little Mermaid to 3D and re-release it http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/01/15/entertainment-us-disney-3d-idUSBRE90E00I20130115 I can't see how the suits at Disney think Little Mermaid 3D would not make money. I think it was a massive hit in its day, and it caused a huge fad with a whole generation of girls becoming mermaid lovers.

Oh well, at least Finding Nemo got made into 3D, and that was a great movie too! I just found out it's available on 3D Blu-Ray as well as regular Blu-Ray too. I'm so looking forward to getting 3D home TV.

Is the Little mermaid 2 also coming out on Blu-Ray? I only have the old video tape and we don't own a video recorder anymore xD

it was cancelled because the company that did the 3D went under... literally. I actually saw a trailer for the latest Disney movies coming out at the theatre when I saw The Croods- they hadn't removed it, it still said coming to theatres in 3D and this was a month ago! But everything online says right to blue ray

Special Fx videography is becoming extinct. The company that won the at the Academy Award's last year is out of business! My friend in Calif, worked for Lucas Films, went to their reunion, and said [they] have decreased their staff, too! Sad, but true. George Lucas retired, Disney bought them, and shut down a portion of their products already. Truly a sad day for Visual and Special effects specialists.

Woo Hooo!

Even though 3D version of Little Mermaid won't be re-released in theatres, there will be a 3D Blu-Ray version coming out in October! Also, the film will have been remastered, and should look and sound better than the old VHS & DVD versions.

You'll be able to buy either a 2D version on Blu-Ray or DVD, or a combo pack with the 3D and 2D versions together. It'll be worth saving up to get a 3D TV just for this.

Here's the trailer for the new video release

I remember watching this a long time ago with my aunt, I went to the movies for the first time with her. Everything was in Dutch then as it was a children's movie so they dubbed it. Now it sounds strange for me to listen to the English version. I still can't wait to get a new version of the Little Mermaid though

I just realized the new release is going to be the North American release that won't play on European players! (Different region code) Unless you spend extra for one of those Blu-Ray players that ignores region code restrictions. It will have audio and subtitles in the usual English, French and Spanish that North American releases tend to have.

Eventually they do seem to get around to releasing Euro versions of these Blu-Rays, hopefully it won't take too long. The Euro versions also tend to include lots of different audio tracks and subtitles in different languages, so it'll be good when it it does come out.

People will probably put it out for download on the file sharing networks too, probably in HD, and you can get subtitles in many languages from the subtitle sites.
