Evidently a recent study by the organization Oceana reveled that over 30% of seafood in the US is mislabeled. Holy shit. I thought it was possible to eat fish sustainably by making informed choices, but that might actually be impossible. I'm pretty shocked that the commercial fishing industry is even more unscrupulous than I thought, and I already though it was pretty sleazy.

It made headlines in a lot of major newspapers, although they mostly focused on customers being sold cheaper fish, rather than the conservation angle: (NY Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/21/us/survey-finds-that-fish-are-often-not-what-label-says.html), LA Times (http://www.latimes.com/business/money/la-fi-mo-seafood-mislabeling-united-states-20130221,0,82628.story))

Anyway, Oceana has a petition: http://act.oceana.org/letter/l-seafood-fraud/ (http://act.oceana.org/letter/l-seafood-fraud/?source=homepage%20feature)
