I know this grotto...there are always a lot of boats here, it's a good place to make your appearance as a mermaid because there're many tourist around that will bring their experience to their friends and parents (I mean that you can easily get known all around the world in this way).
Also you can reproduce the scene of the mermaids of "Pirates of Caribbeans 4" hiding underwater and then showing yourself by leaning on one edge of a boat, people would be delighted and amazed by this!

This looks like the famous Blue Grotto on the Isle of Capri, about 3 miles offshore from the Bay of Naples in Italy in the Mediterranean. On days when you can go in, there's a steady stream of boats going in and out, and pretty big lineups. When I was a kid my family was visiting Naples, but my parents decided not to go because of the lineups.
EDIT: Swimming isn't allowed, but Italians are always ready to break a few rules. One girl managed to do it because of a nice tour guide, even if it was only for a minute and half, you can read about it here ( http://suzyguese.com/where-are-you-going-swimming-in-disappointment-and-the-waters-of-the-blue-grotto-on-the-isle-of-capri/ )
Actually, I can see why they ban swimming, there's a pretty big surge in and out from the entrance as waves hit the entrance hole and then recede. Sooner or later someone would get into trouble, and with the steady stream of boats going through, well, you can imagine.
EDIT: a guy did it, and even took an underwater video in the Blue Gotto!
http://youtu.be/nMWSseWdYPI
http://youtu.be/nMWSseWdYPI
He says in the comments section that he "tipped" the boatman generously and the guy let him hop in the water with his camera.
Looks like you can swim in the Blue Grotto, if you're willing to tip generously and come prepared. LOL- I wonder if they'd let someone go in the boat wearing a tail?

There are a few blue caves in the mediterranean.
I would love to go to the one near the Isle of Vis in Croatia in the Adriatic Sea

But the one I really want to save my pennies for and go to some day is the ones on Malta.
That's 'cause they hold freediving courses every summer in Malta, and part of most of the courses involves an extracurricular visit to the blue caves! Can't think of a more spectacular place to do a freediving course.

Ooo very pretty. It looks very cold for some reason.
It sort of reminds me of those caves where the water is super clear and stuff

I think it's dumb that you have to pay to go somewhere created by nature. I don't have to pay to go to the beach, do I? Lame. /:

You've never been to Germany then!
The "beach" of the entire North Sea has been walled off, so you can neither walk up to it nor see it, until you pass one of the "watchposts" and pay up an entry fee xD
You'd have to drive and hike really long to find a spot that's not walled off in this way.
Don't bother; the North Sea is cold, dirty, and not very handsome anyway :p
On topic; there are many blue caves, holes, and grottos around the world.
I've seen prettier places than the Capri cave.
At any rate, I'd rather go somewhere less thronged!

I haven't gotten to go to any of the blue caves yet, but I'd really like to. I've been told that the one in Malta and the one in Croatia are much less crowded and "touristy" than the one in Italy. Hmm, I'd still visit the one in Capri if I got the chance, though, just because my family didn't go when I was a kid.

Well, you don't know whether they are or not until you make a hole in the top of the cave that the moon can shine through when it's full

Hey, it turns out the Japanese island of Okinawa has a blue cave, and people are allowed to freedive there. This guy did a video with his GoPro, didn't turn out super, but still, he got in there.

Capri is gorgeous, and the blue grotto even more! But it's super dangerous to swim in because of the water rushing into it and then back out. It's a really strong current, and the only time you can get into the cave is at very low tide.
You have to pay to get there because the guide has to time when the boat can ride a wave into the cave, or your boat will smash against the top rim of the rocks. Broken tourists is never a good thing!
