I didn't know where to post this but...
My Betta fish is dying. It hasn't died yet. It's just floating with his face towards the surface. He isn't moving but the occasional swim around the tank. I was wondering if any of you have had this problem or know what to do. :( I don't want this fish to die if there is something I can do to prevent it or help it. Please help.

Can you answer a few questions for me?
How many gallons is the tank? Is it filtered and heated?
How often do you change the water and how much at a time?
Do you know your ammonia, nitrate and nitrite levels in the water? You can get these from a test kit, liquid drops are way more accurate than strips, if you dont have testers you can take a sample of the water in a glass container(plastic messes up the test results) to a pet store and they will do it for free. Ask for the number values for each one.
Without this info its hard to tell what to do. The only thing I would feel recommending is a water change without this info.

Sadly Mr F. died a few seconds ago :( I got him from Meijers. ( I've had him for two days.) His water was filtered and the tank was 3 gallons. The water was 76 degrees. I can't come up with any good explanation as to why he died but as to he might have been sick when I bought him. R.I.P. Mr. F

I work in fish disease and quarantine at the waikiki aquarium. When you get a new fish make sure the water is similar. You can acclimate with a drip line. Not just temperature but other factors can really impact a stressed out fish. Also what are your other water parameters? Are there any other fish in the tank?

There weren't any other fish in the tank. The water was half new water and the water he came in. It's strange because we also got a gold fish and the goldfish is doing fine.

Maybe you can help me......maybe not. But mine keeps flaring! like aggressive "This is my tank" flaring. He's in his own tank and he isn't near any of the other tanks and can't see any other fish. I'm worried he's gonna stress himself to death! Can that happen? how do I make him stop? it's freaking me out!!!!

Bettas have their own personalities. Some can be shy and not move alot and some can flare for no reason or your finger or bright colors (like from your fish food bottom). I've had many bettas and each has had a different personality. They're neat.
If you're worried that he might be stressing himself out make sure he's got a place to hide (they love that) and try to avoid bright colors around his tank.
Hope that helps!
