Hi!
I'm not American or Canadian, so I don't know if I really belong here. I'm Norwegian, and that's in the north, so I decided to join that pod. I hope I'm still welcomed here, even if I'm not from the continents listed here.
I was a member at mer.yuku, I used to call myself Dinglehopper. I wasn't so active because I had a lot of other stuff going on.
I want to fullfill the dream I've had since I was a little girl and put both legs in one stocking - the dream of being a mermaid. I didn't know people actually made realistic mermaid tails until last year, and I got hooked. Well, I haven't collected the guts to actually buy a tail, but one can say I pretty much fell in love with the beautiful tails I saw in your forum, the shops and Youtube!
I really like this forum! I don't feel so alone anymore, and less of a freak.
I've always been fascinated with merpeople. And I've always loved swimming, being in the water, being near the water, especially the sea. I really like the smell of the sea, it makes me feel free and welcome. It brings back good childhood memories. But I am also afraid of the water, as well as feeling at home when I'm in the water. Much like life itself.
As soon as I get money, I will order a latex tail for a photoshoot. I don't have any other friend who likes mermaiding as much as I do, so I probably won't bring the tail to beaches. But at least I will have photoshoots with it.

Hello there dear~ Of course you are welcome here! :D
That's really a neat story. ^^ I am sure you would be fine bringing the tail to the beach if you wanted.
I hope you can hang out here and we can all get to know you <3
Happy swimming!

Thank you! I'm not so sure anymore about the latex tail though. If I'm getting a tail, it has to be the best. I only want to have one tail.
I really hope I can get to a mermaid convention next year, meet other mermaids. I don't want to be the only one. And the top of it is that I'm diagnosed as schizophrenic, so people might think it's because I'm sort of considered as crazy... I should move to the states, then I won't be so lonely I guess. At least get there for the mermaid convention. :D
I love cosplaying as well, and thought of buying a mermaid tail for the newest Pirates of the Caribbean movie, but then I thought how on Earth am I going to get to the cinema in a mermaid tail? Lol. I have to get a boyfriend soon so he can carry me. A wheelchair just isn't as glamorous, haha

I know right? You and I need to put out personal ads: Mermaid seeking boyfriend to carry her around. Must be strong, limber, and patient. Also handsome wouldn't hurt.
In all seriousness though, it's great to see a mermaid from another part of the world joining our forum! And if loving mermaids and wanting a tail makes you weird, well, take heart in the fact that you're surrounded by weirdos here who love it too. We're glad to have you.

Welcome Nerissa! Haha, yeah all of us mermaids need our mertenders- people to carry us around, fetch us things, take pictures, ect :P We'd be lost without 'em!
If you just want to go for one tail I'd recommend saving for a silicone one! They're so life like, comfortable, and are really durable. Put material is personal preference of course :) The rest of us mers are always trying to get more tails, haha.

Thanks! Well, actually when thinking it over, I don't doubt I will get more tails. But that will probably be when I get my own place, so that my parents won't be mad at me for spending my money on things I actually don't need. But hey, who said a mermaid doesn't need her tail?;) I think I'll buy a latex one at first, and maybe later I'll save up for a better one. ^^
You know, the people I told this to have only been positive about this, some of my friends thought it was really cool, one of them said it was awesome, and a male friend told me he thought it was attractive and wanted to go with me to the photoshoot! x]
But I will keep it from the people I know will freak out, my parents and a friend who is a politician among others. My politic friend will just tell me that the money I spend on this tail could feed a whole third world country intead of a childhood dream. But I don't have use for feeling guilty. I can become a vegan and stay away from clothes made in China and so on, and pay back that way. I don't even know why I have that friend, because most politicians really scare me... No offence. Most do, not all of them. :)

The whole "feed a whole third world country" thing is just an excuse to guilt you into doing something (s)he approves of... think of all the people who really could feed third-world countries with their money (including many politicians) but instead spend it on first-class airfare (or private jets) and galas and alcohol and bad habits and donations to groups that espouse political agendas instead of charitable ones. It is your money, you've worked for it, so it is up to you to decide what you get to do with it... and you can be charitable without donating, either (volunteering, for instance). I think you're in a good place and have nothing to worry about.

^ Martin's right. Don't let anyone guilt you into doing stuff. It's happened plenty in my life, and sometimes can be a form of mental abuse if done too much. You don't have to be Mother Teresa to be charitable - and you should also make sure that you're true to yourself, and try to be happy. =)
Welcome to the boards and community! Wow, Norway, I'd love to visit there someday. Such a beautiful country.

This is Nerissa's new account. I'll ask an admin to delete Nerissa. As my name is actually Lene :)
Thank you! I didn't notice the replies until now. Sorry about that. I am looking forward to the photoshoot! It might be this summer. It might. It costs a bit, and I have to save all I can after taking money from the appartment fund for the tail. And I need at least 300 000 NOK in equity or whatever is the right translation, to have enough to apply for loan from the bank. >_< But I'll get there eventually. I'm glad I live in Norway, where I get all the help I need to eventually get work. NAV (the company that is here to help people get into work) has gotten a lot of bad reputation, but my story is a good one. Haha!
I currently have applied for an internship at Lush :) They seem optimistic to have me there as an intern, so I keep my fingers crossed until I get that job interview. I just adore that soap-shop. It smells so good in there, and they have a facial scrub inspired by mermaids!
Oh, and did you know that I am a chatterbox? Yeah. Blablabla. Haha :)
