These videos by famous surfer Veronica grey are interesting. Her new shark averting suit is based on the idea that sharks avoid stiped patterns that look like very poisonous prey. I've actually seen another test where the researchers found that sharks would avoid people wearing wetsuits with horizontal stripe patterns on them.

Should we be making our tails with stripes of the Banded Sea Snake on them?

Wow very interesting.
Maybe we should be putting stripes on our tails xD
I wonder how we know that it works, though? Lots of other animals have stripes as well? So do sharks just generally avoid stripes or something? It also sort of seems like there should be more along the suit.

I don't see myself swimming with sharks anytime soon, but if that is the case with sharks avoiding the stripes an it reminds them of the sea snake there could be alot of potential for stripes on stuff to keep yourself from getting bitten.

Her suit is oriented towards surfers. The stripes are on the arms and legs because the most common shark attack on surfers is for the shark to bite legs or arms sticking down into the water from their board. I also suspect she and the wetsuit manufacturer wanted the suit to look more mainstream, and "normal" by not having strips along the whole body, since surfer guys, IME, are pretty concerned about not looking dorky.

For someone completely in the water, you would probably do better to make your whole body loook like a banded sea snake or a lionfish, or whatever.
