Two famous people reminisce about days before and after platic garbage started accumulating in the sea. I guess David Attenborough is old enough that he remembers the transition to using plastics for everything, and now has seen how the world has changed.

It seems Tanya Streeter grew up in the Cayman Islands in the Caribbean, and saw the Caribbean Sea before plastic garbage started to accumulate. This made me nostalgic, since as a kid I lived in a third world country, and would go to the sea where there was no garbage either on the beach or in the water. Plastic had been around for a long time, but there, very few people had anything plastic. Don't know what my old home beach is like, but here at Cherry Beach in Toronto, while the sand is very clean (people in Toronto are nice and tend to clean up grabage) out in the water there's plastic stuff on the bottom.

It seems to me that promoting safe use of plastic and safe disposal, and less use of plastic in general, is one of the best things we could do for our watery home.
