If they're region 1, they're viewable only in the US and Canada, if they're region 2 they're only viewable in Europe, region 4, Australia and New Zealand

The companies have a system of region codes that make players sold in certain areas only play DVDs with the code for their region embedded at the front of the DVD.

That's good to know. The region 4 DVD set can be bought from Australia relatively cheap on Ebay.
