well i've organised one of these trades for other communities but i havent made one for the mer community..until now!
what is an atc? an artist trading card of course! An ATC is a miniature work of art. each card is 2.5 inx3.5 in. The cards can be made out of anything you want and can be decorated with anything as long as it's the same size as stated.
who can participate? anyone one who is a member of the mernetwork.
Can I see some examples? To see examples you can visit:

+http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?action=search2;topic=381647.0;search=img ;show_complete=true;sort=ID_MSG|desc-
+or just google it!
umm...what now?For tips, tricks, and more ATC resources visit: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?board=259.0
How does the swap work? Mers participating in this swap will be required to send out ATCs to their assigned recipients (under their requested theme) and will receive cards in return from other Mers (though likely different Lolitas.) You will have two weeks from the assignment of partners to send your card or cards. Please contact the swap organizer (draggersprez on ) if your partner has flaked so I can make arrangements!
sign up form:https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dEtOWThqaTlHWE9JeGZ1cTB5aVN3WWc6M Q
feel free to advertise this on DA or else where. we'll get more mers on the forum and more people to trade cards with!

ATCs should never cost - there are two rules for ATCs - the first ... that they MUST be 2.5 x3.5 in size. Second rule is that they can ONLY be traded, never sold. Trading cards that are sold - are called ACEOs or Sketch Cards.
The beauty about ATCs (outside of that they aren't something that you sell) is that they can be made out of ANYTHING. For ideas and tips, instead of the link above, I'd suggest that http://www.atcsforall.com might be a better place to browse and learn more.
The total cost ought to be whatever it takes to make the card and the envelope and stamp to send it to your swap partner.
I would totally do a swap, so sign me up.

So what you do is you all make a card ... you can find blank artist trading cards at Michael's or Hobby Lobby or craft stores like them!
http://www.strathmoreartist.com/cards-atc.html
Here are good basic cards to get, so you know what to look for or ask for:
http://www.strathmoreartist.com/product-reader/items/300-series-bristol-artist-trading-cards.html
Or cut out a card from like backing board or heavy cardstock, or whatever - just make sure it is 2.5 x 3.5.
Then create a piece of art in the theme of the swap - which is mermaids!
You can do altered art ATCs - which is where you combine objects and images to make a card - like collage! Or you can draw, paint, sew, glue, sculpt, whatever you want to make something that expresses the theme of mermaids to you. It can be abstract or surreal or realistic or cartoony, doesn't matter.
here is a great collection on Flickr!
http://www.flickr.com/groups/atcs_for_trade (http://www.flickr.com/groups/atcs_for_trade)
Just click the "Older" and "Newer" buttons once you click on a card to see the others!
Here is another great group:
http://www.flickr.com/groups/_atc_
Some of us join multiple groups to share our cards, so sometimes you will see the same card in a bunch of places, but you will *always* see new cards!
but if you click through you will see allll sorts of cards - if you can use glue and be creative, YOU can enjoy the art of atcs! If you can do more than just glue - then you can do even more varieties of cards! :)
It's fun! And anyone can do this! even if you don't see yourself as an artist or think you can't draw or be creative ... just try. You might be surprised!

Then once you have made your art - sign the back!
Most folks will put the following on the backs of their card...
Artist Name
Website
State & Country
Date card was made
Name of swap
name of card (if you have decided to title your atc - Mermaids treasures, or Under the sea, or Making waves, etc - that sort of thing)
Then you can seal it if you want to go that extra step - and then usually you either get an address to send them to from the person organizing the swap - or you send them to the person doing the swap with a stamped and self addressed envelope and the organizer will get all the cards, and then send everyone a card from someone else.
And that is all there is to it!

I got my card from Draggersprez today, and it is awesome! Such a beautiful work of art. I'll scan it and post a picture of it soon if that's okay. Thanks so much, draggersprez! Hopefully I'll have my cards mailed out in the next few days. :)
