Hi everyone! I am super excited to be part of this group. I am just barely starting off and need to know if there is anywhere/anyone selling their used tail? I am needing to start off simple and experiment.

Instead of a tail, you might want to buy a monofin first (I would suggest a Finis Wave, or a Rapid if you have feet that are more on the largest side). This will help you get used to swimming with the dolphin-kick style without the further restraint of a tail.

As for used tails, check sites like Ebay, Etsy, Craigslist, etc. If you hunt around, you might also be able to find a tailmaker who will make you a fabric tail for not that bad of a price (try businesses that are less commercial than Mertailor of Splash, like Fish Butts, Merbellas, or Merberry). I can't guarantee anything, but it never hurts to poke around.

Also, there is a Classified section of this forum where people sell their tails (haven't been in it yet, but you might be also able to post a "wanted" ad).

Good luck and have a bubbly day! :mermaidkiss:

What sort of tail are you looking for? I know there are some on ebay, but then again its on and off and depends upon the type.

It can be confusing being a new mer, but you are certainly in luck to have such a helpful forum like this around. When I was a new mer, I never did.

There are several types of tails including fabric, neoprene, latex and silicone. While there are mers who simply dive in with one of the higher graded tails, I recommend starting out with a either just a monofin or a fabric tail if you are a beginner.

Several tail makers can be found that can easily fit your budget and style. You should definitely check out this (http://mernetwork.com/index/content.php?133-mermaid-tailmakers) link for a list of tail makers. I own a shop, but it is not yet listed in that link. You are welcome to check out my shop at www.etsy.com/magichorizon (http://www.etsy.com/magichorizon) or check out our facebook at www.facebook.com/fintastictails (http://www.facebook.com/fintastictails)

If you are on a strict budget or are simply great at DIY, I suggest taking a look at this (http://mernetwork.com/index/content.php?135-Tutorials-and-How-to-Guides) link. There are alot of us who greatly enjoy making our own tails, it is an amzing feeling when you've completed your very own creation.

You also may find it helpful to check out this (http://mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?4156-What-to-expect-with-your-first-tail) thread to read up on what to expect with whatever tail you decide to get!

Well, I hope this helped you out. Good luck and happy mermaiding! :D

Thanks everybody! What a welcoming! I am interested in something latex or silicone. I do princess parties and want to add a mermaid to my character list (and because I think its super awesome!) So I dont want to spend an arm and a leg (since I already have with all my other costumes!) I would even be open to trades.

Oh what fun! :D

But depending on what your definition of an "arm and a leg" is, you might be disappointed Even the hand me down tails made of silicone are pretty expensive. And it obviously might not fit you as well as you way want it to. :/

I agree, adding a mermaid persona to your list of costumes would definetly bring in more people! But define "arm and a leg." Latex and silicone tails are both very expensive, even if they are second, third, or fourth hand. Instead, why not try painted fabric? It's relatively affordable, plus if you paint it yourself you can design it however you like! You could also try Mermagica, they are popular for patterned fabric tails and those tails go for abooout $150 I think.

Hey, Krystal Patrick posted a thread about a mertaior tail on ebay. I don't know if you saw it so here is the link. I know is neoprene, but it still looks pretty cool from the pics.

Do you want it to be a swimmable tail or are you planning on using it for dry events? you might have more options if you weren't planning on using it in water.
