Advice on cutting Wave monofin

I currently own a spandex mermaid tail and I love the fabric and the colour. But when I originally made it I was to scared to cut the monofin and didn't have enough fabric to extend it so I just left it in it's original shape, something I now regret. So To avoid chucking the hole tail I have decided to trim it into a more mermaidy shape, but all the posts I've seen about cutting monofins is all about competitor monofins. So I don't know what I need to cut it down. Do I kneed special tools . . .
