View Full Version : Stretch House selling Neoprin as Neoprene?!

Hey guys, I just got my samples in from Stretch House (link, http://www.stretchhouse.com/neoprene.htm), and I knew the price was to good to be true, so help me out. the fabric the sent is very thin, has a fibrous core, and when stretched it does not fully regain its shape. I might be new to tailmaking, but something definitely smells fishy! :( I know they could have typed it in wrong, and I have bought fabric from them before, but can y'all help confirm or deny my suspicions so we can help get the word out if I am right?

Thanks!

Hmm could you take a picture?
You know Morticia knows a lot about how to explain the differences, I think she basically said that neoprene has a very thin layer of rubber on one side of the fabric.
But honestly, if it's not retaining it's shape it sounds like a knock off!
You should send them an email and tell them to knock it off!

yeah, it's advertised as neoprene but it isn't. i wouldn't suggest dealing with them, they're sketchy anyway.

I would email them and demand my money back! What a rip! :(

Thanks mers, it is definitely a cheap form of neoprin, NOT neoprene. So note: do not order from Stretch House!!!!

Hmm I think Stevi (owner of fishbutts) actually had a general complaint about Stretchhouse. I think they ended up basically stealing her money and never sending out her order at one point so yea, I think they are pretty sketchy to begin with, so I'd stay away from em xD

I have heard so many bad things about them, plus I know of a couple of tail makers that got screwed over by them. I will never ever get fabric from them. When an if I decide to make another tail again I will be sure NOT to buy fabric from them.

I had a tail made out of neoprin, when I look at the actual photos on the website, it looks like neoprene to me. My neoprin looked a lot like a burlap sack. Do you have any photos of the samples? (though I believe you if you say it's like this!) It reallllly sucks if they're selling neoprin as neoprene. They're totally screwing people over, and I hope they complain to them. It's illegal and false advertising. Here's a close up look of my neoprin vs neoprene. Neoprin on the left, neoprene on the right

Is there any legal recourse I have for the false advertisement and all? I mean I am out 80 bucks due to their shadiness... I wish I would of seen this before I ordered... they man when i called was rude and stated his Neoprene is high quality stuff... it was not neoprin... and that he been selling it and never got a complaint... then when I told him i wanted it exchanged for neoprene, he said no, then i said ok, I am sending it back and want a refund.... he got even ruder and hung up on me!

Did you order samples first? :\

sadly no... when i calmly asked for an exchange/ refund... the man got extremely rude... kept insisting that they sent me Neoprene, not Neoprin. I even tried to explain the differences to him, all it did was get him worked up. Sorry, but when i am calm about it, there is no reason to get huffy and puffy and rude. and You never get rude and hang up on a costomer that has a legit concern.

It really sucks. Maybe someone here can tell you what you can do, $80 is a lot. All I can advise is to always order samples...I've saved myself SO much money by getting samples for spandex and stuff. It's way better than losing all that money and having to use something you really don't want to. =\

Hi julz,

When I have issues with a company, I always threaten to contact the BBB if they're being unreasonable. It worked with Ben Franklin's online company (totally separate from the mom and pop owned local stores) when they charged me for paint and never shipped it.

Have you tried contacting your credit card company? They might be able to help you as well if you file a dispute.

Its my bank debit card. I can contact them, and see what they tell me....

Also, since they were so rude and hung up on me... i did send a complain to the BBB

There's also a warning on the Materials and Supplies (http://mernetwork.com/index/content.php?139-Materials-and-Supplies)page "Warning: The neoprene distributor Stretch House Inc. has recently been accused of credit card fraud. For the time being MerNetwork recommends avoiding this company." But no one ever looks there so :/ Maybe we should make a sticky so others can avoid this.
