Hi All,

I happen to stumble on this forum while looking up information on mermaids. I saw an article on a real professional mermaid and decided to dig a little deeper. While I didn't get into mermaids as a little girl I spent my summers from about 8 until 18 at the swimming pool and would image what it would be like to be a mermaid swimming under the water without needing to come up for air. I don't have an awesome mermaid name yet, but you can all call me Fallen as it's the handle I use often online. I'm from a small town in Arizona just outside of Phoenix. I have to say it looks like a lot of fun getting into mermaiding and hope to learn a lot here. I hope to make my own swimmable tail.

Welcome ! Nice to see a fellow mer from AZ again! We're really picking up more aren't we? Haha. I live in maricopa right now though, a bit far, but maybe once we get tails made we can set up a little meet somewhere :)

Hello! I'm also in Arizona~
The East Mesa/Apache Junction area, to be specific. I'm currently saving up for a Mermaid Creations tail, but I'm for sure going to try and make my own practice tail, first. We should definitely do a meet and swim sometime after we've gotten tails together. :)

You're in my area Merinae. I'm in Apache Junction just a few minutes away from East Mesa. So we're neighbors! I'm planning on making my own and practice with a monofin first before I look into a silicone one. I need to find a pool to swim and practice in. That would be fun to swim with you all once we get our tails!!

That's a good idea, Fallen! Before investing all that money into a silicone tail, it's best to practice first. Especially if you aren't used to a monofin, or you aren't exactly a strong swimmer, just yet. I'm an intermediate to advanced swimmer, but I'm making a practice fin, first, while I save up for the silicone fin. Monofins are GREAT exercise, I feel. :3

Almost forgot to add:
I'm a member of the YMCA near Higley Road. They've got a pool, there. Not very deep, but still good. Then there's always public pools at the schools, around here, like the Fremont Jr. High pool, or the Skyline High pool. Then there's the lakes up in the mountains, and the salt river. :)
Best to practice in pools, first, lol.

Thanks. I didn't know there was a YMCA in mesa. I use to do swim team and lifeguard in High school I'm still a fairly decent swimmer but can always use the practice plus I've only used flippers not a monofin but they look fun and a great way to exercise

Bumping this up. I've been MIA for a while. I was working a lot and trying to secure a full time job which I had but the new job has me depressed and I've lost the drive to even want to go to work. It's a new field for me but the organization is very disorganized and I feel like my skills and talents are going to waste because no one knows what my job function is. So because of this I've been looking to get back into mermaiding. I'm waiting my copy of Fishy Business to arrive to help me out as well as this forum. Thanks for all the support and I look forward to being back.

Welcome back! I know land life can get pretty hairy at times, so there's nobody who'll fault you for having trouble keeping up with the sea life.
I, myself, am going to be welcoming a little princess merling into the world come May, and that's sucked up a lot of my time and resources. I ended up making a merternity tail while I wait, lol. My neoprene tail's gotta wait until after she's here and I'm back to pre-baby fitness.

Good luck waiting for Fishy Business! Unfortunately, I still haven't gotten a copy. :(

I can totally relate to the whole baby-weight thing! I was just starting to lose a bit after my son, finally doing something that was working, and then my knees gave out. And then I got pregnant again! *face flops*
I started having awful morning sickness, moved in with my in-laws, and then I got horribly ill on top of it. I lost 10 pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight, got really dehydrated, and finally ended up losing the baby on the 4th. That hurt a lot, in more ways than one. :(
I've done pretty well, though, since, but I'm still healing physically. Once I'm done, I'll be able to get back to swimming, and finally get the exercise I need.

Wow, I get really off topic, sometimes!
Anyway, yeah! Baby weight. I'm 5'5" and have a nice hourglass figure, except for the kangaroo pouch in front. That's what I want gone the most!

Fallen

Haha me too. Rest of my body looks the same before I was pregnant just the tummy didn't. I'm 5'8" and have always been slender. I can't wear a lot of clothes because my upper body is a size medium my waist is an xl and my hips are a large. So hard to find clothes that fit.

Mermaid Nerinae
01-16-2014, 04:28 PM
Lol! Yes, I'm also hourglass shaped. I'm going to combat the kangaroo pouch as soon as possible with things like the Belly Buddy wrap thing, and wearing my corsets again on top of maintaining diet and exercise. Definitely gonna push for my flat tummy back.

Also, I'm sorry Dottie, that's always incredibly difficult to overcome. :< *merhugs from a state away*

Aww, Thanks Nerinae.

The thing everyone kept telling me after Lochlan was born, was "do your tummy exercises right away and don't stop!"
They said that unless I had a c-section, I needed to be doing them from day one.
I obviously didn't listen.:$:shame:

From what I know, it's not always the best idea to start with the intense tummy exercise right away as we need to let our muscles move back together. But we can bind, and do light exercise and then around 3-5 weeks can move on to some more vigorous exercises. Lol we've gotta be careful to not seriously injure ourselves in our quests for fitness. XD

Yep, you are right. My whole problem was that I didn't exercise at all. not one bit, lol, I was a very lazy first-time mommy. Not making that mistake again!

Fallen

Yeah I was lazy too. I started to run two years ago but didn't do it consistently

Mermaid Dottie

Yep yep. I know that as soon as I'm all healed I need to hit the gym at least three days every week, or I'm not gonna see any results at all.

Aw that sucks!! I'm in a similar boat to you, only I lost my job in November and have been having a helluva time trying to get another. Fortunately found some temp work, but otherwise...
Hope everything works out for you!

Thanks. I'm sorry. I have two jobs where neither of them pays the bills. The one is the zoo where I've been trying to move up for the last 4 years but can't get full time. The other I'm a park ranger at the garden but they have no idea what my job is and people seem very afraid of me due to the uniform and the notion my job is to tell people they can't do things. It's really sad. I'm miserable and not doing what I was hired for or use my skills and experience. I hope it works out for the both of us

Dang, Fallen, Nerinae, I'm so sorry about your jobs.
I'm so very grateful I am able to be a stay-at-home mom. Teaching my baby and crafting all day are way better than working the bakery at a convenience store.
I hope you gals are able to find more fulfilling work soon.
