hey, i was wondering if anyone has ever been put this this position?
i am a very private mer, i dont like many people to know who i am or what i do with my spare time, but today, melbournes free newspaper had an article about eric (the mertailor) and a girl i went to high school with, who i have not really spoken to in years and i still have complexes about friends who dumped me after school, this girl being one of them, she put the article up and made him seem like a massive joke, also her sister commented with insane laughter.
well i dont know eric personally, ive never bought one of his tails, ive heard all of the crap that went down some time ago, but i dont care to comment on it.
i defended the crap out of him, seriously how dare people look down on other people with hobbies and lifestyles that dont match their own, they speak out about equality and rights in the next breath! makes me so mad!!!
so i guess i just sort of quasi outed myself as a mer on my facebook.
has anyone done something similar? swallowed fear and stood up for what they love and open themselves to ridicule?

I think what you've done is at the same time brave and right...
I mean someone who puts herself on the line of ridiculous just to defend what she loves has to be considered like a superhero, because ordinary people are cowards! And don't be afraid of showing yourself as a mermaid 'cause it's something that they will never have! They don't have something special that can distinguish themselves from the mass and they'll never have it only because they're afraid of being scoffed, but you don't!You're special 'cause you have a dream and you didn't loose imagination that's somehting that doesn't make you a sheep like them or a child! You're the shark! They're the little fishes even if it seems the contrary in real life you're the one that doesn't need to run to safe you're life.
I mean, that girl and her sister mocked the mertailor maybe because they are envious of what he have done, what he reached just dreaming, you can understand that it isn't exactly what everyone can do, to make a dream come true and make it your job!Of course he got wrong in a period of time but he's human after all!And latins say "errare humanum est" (five years of high school spent studying Latin for this result XD ok stop with nonsenses XD ) so it can happen sometimes but you can't judge someone else from her or his mistakes.
You can be proud of yoursef because what you did isn't something that someone else would do for another person.
And I understand beeing a private mer and the need to be it, but if it's bcause you're afraid of the judgement of the other people don't care about it!Remember that what you like and you're able to take to reality is something that the others can only be envious about because they aren't brave or special enought for a dream.
Just think if mermaid Hannah, Melissa, Kariel, Raven or Raina and many others thought that they could have been derided for disgusing like a mermaid and pretend to be it only for a moment.......Would they ever have done what they do?Would they ever have become so famous? No.
So don't hide what you like and what you think 'cause it's what makes you different and special, a predator and not a prey.At least it can't be so bad...maybe you can find someone who likes your ideas :)

Bella I commend you on doing so. I have been there but not the same. (if that makes any sence)I have a friend that is gay an some people did the same thing ,an I went off on them. Now I am not gay but they were putting him down in every sence of the way , then went to explain equality. Well that burned my butt about it an I stuck my 2 cents worth in and after I explained everything of what they said. An I had said it cut them to the quick. It shut them up REAL quick. Aan they had to back track on everything on what they said. After that not a thing was said further. I just hate when people back stab you then try to make up for in in the same context.

I can only say this just like his boyfriend said : "Haters is gonna hate".
This is obviously the case when you can see two girls bashing on Eric out of jealousy...

Well played, Bella!
My FB friends forwarded links to the article about Eric's appearance saying "Right up your alley! Have you seen this?". :) But then again the ocean permeates many aspects of my life from tattoos, to aquariums, to role-playing games. Donning a tail does not seem that out of character, for me, so my FB friends took it in stride.

Aww thats nice of you, Bella!
It's nice that you defended him! It seemed you mainly defended the idea of mermaids? I wasn't completely sure but yea, that you don't have to be crazy or weird to like them. People just love to make fun of the stuff they find weird without even having a brain enough to think about it properly first. I haven't heard anyone really making fun of him but haha yea someone sent me the link too asking if I had heard of it yet.
Do you have the article, btw?

thanks guys, that made me feel so much better <3
i havent logged onto facebook yet so i dont know what the response will be, i was defending mermaids as a whole but also defending eric specifically.
his photo shows him as buff, confident and happy. and i told them thats just what he is, i also threw in that he makes oodles of money selling the tails heh heh.
i dont know if it is jealousy that makes people say and act this way, i know i would be (and am) jealous of eric for being so out there and happy with his mer-roots, but to me, jealousy shouldnt make people angry, it should make people think "i wish i had what they had, so im going to try and get what they have"
i think they are still on the play ground, they point out the different kid because it hides their own misgivings, this girl used to be so sweet, so caring and accepting of everyone, she is stunning but was not conceded as a result.
i dont know why someone would feel the need to poke fun at other people, it takes all kinds to make a world.
