Well, hi, I'm Sierra! I actually joined MerNetwork a little while ago, but didn't have the time to post anything. So, though a little belayed, here I am! I'll try to keep this relatively short...
I'm currently in located in Colorado Springs, but will be moving to the Denver area in the summer. I own a neoprene lined Mertailor tail I have a love-hate relationship with, but that will be going in my review, which I plan to write next. Long story short: I'm very disappointed with the product and with I had joined this community sooner! It will (hopefully) soon be painted into a tiger-inspired pattern.
Anyway, I have three dreams, all of which I've had since before I can remember. The first is to see my name in print. I've always wanted to be an author and inspire other people to believe in their dreams, in magic, and most importantly, themselves. The second is to make some of that magic come to life with costumes. Over the last few years I've done a lot of cosplaying, but never anything BIG. Now that I'll be turning 18 this August, I am ready to get my hands covered in molding clay and silicone! (Well, not really covered, but you know what I mean.) I would absolutely love to bring magic to the Colorado Renaissance Festival like Merbellas does in their tank, but I currently lack both the materials and the connections to make that happen. My third dream is to make a difference in our world by preserving the environment and protecting the wondrous array of animals we share the world with.
Most mers, I've noticed, are inspired by Disney's "The Little Mermaid" or "Splash," and though I love both films and swam with my feet together as a child, I don't think those are contributing factors to my findom. Essentially I became a mermaid because I was inspired by Raina the Halifax Mermaid and all of her work with conservation. I thought something along the lines of, "She's making a huge impact by doing what she loves in costume," and began hunting for my own tail! I don't think I'm anywhere near professionalism, but... Someday, I hope, I'll get to the point where I can make people smile and appreciate the beauty of the world.
One last thing: As I mentioned earlier, I would love to get into making my own mermaid tails (and various other costume pieces) from latex and silicone. Unfortunately, my financial situation is not at all favorable and I cannot purchase the materials I need to get started making this into an SFX career. Therefore, I am willing to jump into commissions at the price of materials so I can get some experience. I would really appreciate any help or tips you guys have for me, even if it's just pictures of your own studio or what types of glue to use! I have a lot of ideas I would love to bring to life if I get the chance!
Thanks so much for everything, guys! I am very much looking forward to being a member of this supportive community!
