Has anybody made a fluke out of lexan? I want to make a fluke made out of lexan, then attach a pvc pipe to a t-bolt (so it could move) and attach the pvc pipe to a kick plate. If anybody has made one like that is it hard to swim in since it is extended and is it really heavy?

Quite a few members have used Lexan. Search it up in the toolbar for specific threads but I believe in almost all of the cases the Lexan eventually cracked and snapped so it had to be replaced. I think most people also just went with a fiberglass monofin to replace the Lexan.

Okay, do you know any stores that sell fiber glass?

To make your own? I don't know of any right off hand but I know there are some. Do some searches to find some answers--and I'm sure other members will come into this thread to help you as well.

When I was looking for fiberglass I only found wholesale sights such as alibaba, etc where you have to contact the factory in china. Another alternative to fiberglass is polypropylene . That's what the newer hydra monofins. I've never used one but there is a mer here who just ordered one. If you'd like I can link you to the sight to buy polypropylene and fiberglass.

Home Depot does. There's a few tutorials around here. It's not to hard to make actually.

For fibreglass, you probably wouldn't start with a sheet and cut it out, like you would Lexan or similar... You'd have matting that you would layer up and soak in 2-part resin, generally in a mould.
( Again, talking from a prop-maker point of view... I've not seen sheets of ready-made FG for sale in the places I use. It's also a swine to cut - Really toxic and irritating to the skin. )
But you could do some pretty fancy fluke shapes, I imagine, sculpting in clay, making a mould, and casting in FG :)
