Another finfolk mermaid was born today. :) this is the new mermaid Magenta.

Oh I love the tidal pool theme. The tail is cool too. I don't do emoticons but insert the one Tieri used.

Her dorsal side is a different colour to her ventral. A lovely deep Purple. I'll have to try and get a photo of it sometime this week to show off.
It's an aquarium tank including live inhabitants such as stingrays and sea stars :)

I'm not very guarded about my design, it's based on a fish so if other mermaids like it then I think it'd be fun to have similar tails. No, I told them to just go ahead and do the original basic ones :) I do really love yours. I'm mainly worried about my insane paint job... I feel kinda bad that it's so intense lol, it's one of the more difficult they will have had yet to do, I think Magenta's and the mandarin tail are the only ones so far with intricate paint jobs. I have spots, stripes, and about 15 colors... Poor girls! Ack! It'll be so worth it though!!!

Mine had a very intricate paint job. Spots, stripes and speckles. I think it drove the poor girls mad because they had to keep touching it up. But they got there in the end and it is amazing! I'm sure yours will be amazing too Maressa! I let them take some artistic licence with it and I am glad I did.

Thank Q! :D I sent them in a bra they will be making my top to and since it matched my skin tone pretty well, I just told them to make it a few shades darker and it worked out really well.
I picked the competitor monofin, mainly because I planned on doing some Ocean work with it in the future. :)

Absolutely! That was actually one thing I noticed and really loved when I would watch swim videos. It could still hold the shape while giving a flowing appearance. :) I loved how much more powerful it felt compared to my past fabric tails, too. :D It was an amazing feeling.

Truth be told, unfortunately, I gave up that idea because of practical reasons :(

The first, I have been through HELL to find a good tail bag for my first Finfolk tail, I didn't want to go at it again for the custom H20 which would have been heavier and larger. And then, custom flukes from Bryn's magical hands start from 400-500$. For that kind of money, I could get more options for a basic tail like extra fins and a good painting job. So in the end, I had a change of mind. I apologize for that.

Yeah, I understand it, 400-500$ for a custum fluke is quite expensive and I get why you would rather have other options on a basic tail.

Previous customers, I'm in a bit of a pickle. The last time I talked to the girls at length (via Skype) was Dec 12, and the consensus was they would try to finish it and bring it to Merfest, but we agreed that if they needed more time that was fine as long as I had the tail by January 20 (I have an event Jan 24, this Saturday). I got a message from them when they got back to HI Jan 14 saying updates were on the way, then another from Bryn after Arion messaged her saying that Abby is working solo on the tail in HI and she would get Abby in touch with me ASAP... but I haven't heard from Abby. I don't want to message them to death, and I don't know what point the tail is in its completion.

I've looked into renting a tail for the event, and I can either rent a Mertailor for $500 or drive three hours south to borrow one from a closeby mer for $200... both of which I can't really afford.

I'm completely stressed and I don't know what to do. And quote from my boyfriend, I'm "being annoying" by asking so many questions and sending so many messages, but I'm facing my first event that I've planned for six months with no tail or a huge sum of money shelled out for a replacement.

What should I do??? I feel bad even posting about it, but I'm at a loss and I need help or advice.

You have no reason to feel guilty about posting here or about messaging them. You are being remarkably patient with Finfolk!

If I were in your shoes, I would forget about the silicone tail for this gig and whip up a quick spandex tail. Or buy one from Finfun for $60. You could make it impressive without spending much money, and your clients will not know the difference! That is honestly what I would do. Go easier on yourself for this one gig!

We have Renaissance festivals in the states. Performers, patrons in costumes. Lots of fun. Opening weekends are usually the busiest for the season ^_^

What I was referring to is my city's medieval Faire, it's a huge event here where there are lots of wandering performers, tents with amazing things for sale inside, performances, music, and food. I have been going to this one since I was a little girl, and this year I told them about mermaids and they agreed to let me set up a tent full of mermaids for the children to enjoy. Sirenia is joining us!

Welp, here's my tail for Faire! The Mernation girls had a beautiful tail they were going to let me borrow for the first weekend, but four hours of driving the day before faire and not knowing what would happen come weekend #2 just made rush ordering a FinFun with help from my mom a better option. After Faire, I'll give it as a surprise to my little sister, who will be thrilled to have an Ariel tail and be able to swim with me when I get my Finfolk.

Which means four hours of driving today to pick it up with bad brakes on my car, and four hours to drop it back off Monday after I take the car to the shop. Which is about $100 or more in gas plus eight hours of travel... easier to order a fabric tail with rushed shipping that I can give to my younger sister afterwards :)

I was in a car accident and lost my car, had to put my cat and best friend to sleep, lots of medical issues and bills, an insanely stressful semester at school, relationship trouble, and looking forward to my tail has helped to be a bright light at the end of a dark tunnel. I love those colors on that tail! I really love how the fluke is lined with that dark purple and the big spots are very unique. Minxfox, I designed a loooooooot of tails before I picked this one. I made a pinboard and every time I saw something I liked, I pinned it. I'm a costumer, and I do the same with a lot of my big costume projects... helps you see what you keep going back to. :) I think I made about 15 different designs before I fell in love with this one.

Actually, the Splash tail will be the fire tail while my first will be the ice one. I love the idea of owning totally two different tails to make a fire versus ice photoshoot.

If I ever order a third in the future, I will go green.

I got a message from them too, expecting my tail in April! I just have to scrape together the last of the money I owe them, but it shouldn't be too hard with how many hours I've been working these past few weeks. :D

I still have to come up with a design for my tail though! so far all I know is I want the loreena fluke with a dorsal and scale tipping. The colors and designs are up in the air. I don't know what type of design I should do! :eye twitch:

You could always do what Maressa told me she did which is collect lots of images that inspire you such as certain color schemes, certain fish, etc and then maybe that will help you figure out things that you really like. The more images you collect you will probably start to see a theme in certain colors you keep leaning to or certain patterns, etc. Then you can use that information to make a tail design that you will love! :D

I have this color scheme that plays off my merbellas colors (I might make it a touch lighter though)

I'm torn between doing that, or a cotton candy theme with pastel pinks, purples, blues, and white/creams. I'd like to have metallic silver accents on either tail. I feel like I could put more silver on a cotton candy tail with scale tipping and the veins on the fluke, whereas with the above image I think it would only look best as scale tipping. I do have a jump drive FULL of inspiration pictures though, and I told them whenever they have time to let me know and we can brainstorm. :)
With a cotton candy tail, the colors would be similar to my merbellas tail anyways because it had pastel pinks and purples with a white base. So I think it'll be a play off the old colors either way I go.

Hi guys! Got my tail yesterday, took an unboxing video, video of my first time trying it on dry, and first swim today. It's just as beautiful in person as in the pictures!

A little bit of worry though... I don't think it fits. I had problems swimming in it that I haven't seen in any other videos. The water comes in through the gapping in the back of the tail and pulls it down, and then the tail bunches around my ankles... not just a little, but a LOT. About 6-9 inches of it are bunched around my ankles, folded over itself. My friend took photos, she's uploading them right now and I'll post them soon. I'm goign to ask the girls and the tail swimming forum if I'm doing something wrong :/

Gaps can be such a pain! Along with the advice you already got, maybe try a mermaid belt too? It helps for me when my tail gaps. :D

The only time I ever tried wearing a one piece with my tail, it kept slipping down because it didnt have flesh to grip to. It stays up much better when it can stick to skin. :)

Oh, that was my friend who was helping me film, she wants to make her own tail so I let her try mine. :) She wasn't planning on swimming in it, haha. She's also much shorter than me and it didn't fit her at all! We were just having fun :)

That's happened to me before when I've used too much oil! Honestly the area I put the most oil at is my feel/heel, it makes it easier to get into the monofin but other than that I try to use as little as possible!:) by the way I'm going to have to come back to Gainesville now so we can swim lol its so beautiful in and out of the water!
