K, So I hate the floppy ends on the tips of my fluke. I would love to give them some struture But I think I can just feel my hair turnning gray when I think of doing some permanent mod to my brand new monofin...:jawdrop: Saw someone here using gorilla tape to attach a sort of bonning extending off of the end of the fin... but then they covered that with some black gorilla tape all the way to the ends and sprayed it with flex seal. I don't know, I will probably have to just bite the bullet and do the mod. I wonder if the bonning could be used to make a fluke that has both structure and a transparent end portion , maybe if I put a stitch on either side of the bonning in the transparent part like the boning for corsets. Comments? Ideas? Has anyone else here used gorilla tape? Just how sticky is it REALLY?

I didn't use gorilla tape, but I did use two different types of duct tape and sealing tape around cardboard haha I used boning for my fabric tail when I first made it, but I didn't like it. I'm happy with my cardboard and tape monofin extension! haha but I did use black tape so you can see it sometimes..and I missed some spots, so water did get in and washed away the gold paint and make the cardboard soggy. haha

Yeah, I am afraid that bonning inside of a sherr fabric might create too much drag. I have been thinking about this so hard I think I can smell my brain starting to smoke LOL. And see, that's another thing...my tail fabric is really light in places so black tape is going to show. Ugh! :)

White duct tape, instead of black tape?

I was the one who did the the gorilla tape, used wide zip ties as boning, and I actually layered one side of the tape first, then used hot glue up the sides of the monofin with a zip tie to hold a sort of pocket for the glue. Also "DO NOT USE THE FLEX SEAL" I used it and it flaked off the first time I went into the pool. I just re-covered my monofin with gorilla tape.

Oh and it's really sticky. I accidentally got a bit on my lower lip and it sealed on enough that when I pulled it off, it took a bit of skin.

I don't think I've ever heard of gorilla tape... I know I've seen at least one other person here on the forums extend their monofin with zip ties and duct tape. Duct tape is very durable. To quote one of my dad's favorite sayings, "duct tape fixes everything"

That answers a lot of quetions I had. I was really eyeballing a can of flex seal today at walmart too lol. Oh I just long for that beautiful flowing fluke and the awesome mermaid silhouette out of the water too....you know something about cake....and eating it too. which I always thought was stupid cause why wouldn't you eat it?? But since this is my first tail I should keep it simple. :/

I jumped in fin first with this tail (my first). So it's all trial and error right now. The flex seal being are big error. It made the monofin look really nice and and even, but it was super embarrassing when little bits of black rubber started to float around me.
As for the drag issue, I still haven't used my monofin in a tail skin yet. But without it propels nicely. I went from the end of the pool to about halfway in on one breath. (not something I can do without the fin)
As for the color issue, you probably could add some colored duct tape ontop of the gorilla tape.

lol <3 I would try it out to see how well the color tape sticks to the gorilla tape ^__^
Once I get my camera bag, I'll take pictures and a video of me swimming in my monofin so you can see how it looks and how well it flows

^__^ I just have to wait for the bag to come in the mail. I hate waiting. If you want, here's the link to my tail making thread that shows most of what I did with the monofin
