Hi Mers,
So, I've started a Facebook page called The Modern Mermaid: https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Modern-Mermaid/344130412365572
(I can't get a proper "username" until I have at least 25 fans.)
The idea is to have a FB page that promotes all things Mer. I know some similar pages exist, but I can't find one that also promotes "real" merfolk, tailmakers, tailmaking instructions, mermaiding itself, etc. Most FB mers tend to mostly promote themselves (as well they should) - I want to do a page that shows what Mers in general are up to, as a resource and inspiration page for both existing Mers and Mer-wanna-bes.
I may, at some point, wish to turn this into a larger project. We'll see. ;)
As some of you may have noticed, I've already begun sharing your public FB photos there. If this isn't ok with you, please let me know - I kind of assumed that since the material was being shared via public FB pages, the intention was to increase its reach.
All mers and tailmakers would be welcome to send in their updates, upcoming events, photos, sales, tails, etc. Again, I'd like for it to be a resource/inspiration page, for Mers, pre-Mers, and their fans. (Not like Mernetwork, of course - I'm certainly not endeavoring to circumvent this wonderful community - I'm too grateful for it! I would however love to be able to share tailmaking instructables, if anyone would like to share theirs.) Everything would, of course, be credited to its creator.
My original page was entitled "How To Become A Mermaid," but I found that this was too narrow a concept.
The basic idea of The Modern Mermaid is that although we may not have found scientific evidence of mermaids, they truly do exist all around us, in the form of humans using modern technology like silicone and neoprene to achieve an enduring dream.
Thanks for your time and your passion - it has truly been an inspiration to me. I no longer yearn to "be" a mermaid, for I now know I am one - and the best kind, too: one that can spend the majority of her waking hours on facebook. ;)
