The U.S. Navy is conducting more sonar tests that can harm whales and marine mammals. First thought was: I'm a marine mammal, second thought: that is actually true, if a mermaid were within miles of this testing, they could suffer as much as the whales. The question arises; How far do we go in the defense of our country? The Navy does have a whale watch, if whales are spotted, the tests stop. Of course, the whale watch are visual spotters, so if the whales don't surface they can get close to the test area. Smaller mammals (mers?) are in danger because they would not be spotted at all. Any thoughts?

WAR! HUHHH! *dun dun* WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!
*cough* on a serious note, i guess it depends on if you actually do swim in the ocean.... away from any sort of civilization. some like to stay in backyard pools or by the shore... but i'm pretty sure if you do swim in the ocean you're bound to stay near the tourists areas... i could be wrong.

Well, technically its not all bad. It is a terrible thing, but what we are fighting for is what its all about. The Navy is only doing what they think is best for the country. I am a HUGE marine mammal lover, so that being said, I understand what they are trying to achieve but they just think that the pros outweigh the cons. Not saying they do! But thats the way they look at it.
Mers, im not really sure about. I would have to look up more info.

There was a special on the Discovery Channel, where they claimed to have 'heard' a creature (assuming a mermaid) and called it the bloop. It was sounded first back in 1994 when the Navy was first testing sonar off the coast of California. Thousands of whales were killed because the sonar basically punctured little holes in them. I remember hearing about this on the news back then. There were whales all over the coasts of the Americas, Japan, Australia everywhere! It's a really sad thing and I wish the Navy wouldn't do it but I doubt they will stop because of the whales =[
