View Full Version : Fluke Woes (Fabric Tail)

I have a confession to make: I hate my tail's fluke.
When I was making my tail, I made a big mistake and cut the fluke fabric to be exactly the same length as the monofin. I don't know what I was thinking, but this means that the fabric doesn't really fit the monofin, and as a result the monofin tends to peek out as the fabric rides up around it. I have tried using velcro to hold it in place, but I find myself having to reattach the velcro every few minutes when I'm swimming. Ugh! I am tired of trying to make the too-small fluke work, and I think this summer I'd like to try and fix it.
...But how? I'm open to any suggestions. I've thought about cutting the whole fluke off and sewing a new one on (appealing because I don't much like the paint job on the fluke either), but then I'd have a seam where the scales meet the fluke. I'm not sure I'd like that. Any ideas you may have would be greatly appreciated.
I've attached a photo that shows pretty much the best I can get the thing to look without photoshop. :(

See I have the opposite problem. I made the fluke ends waaayyyy too long in my opinion. It looks pretty when in motion but when looking at it...it just seems TOO BIG. I am weird in liking things to be proportionate...and my tail isn't. I feel your pain

It sure looks pretty in your profile picture! Could you not just cut it to size?

Why don't you just add some fabric fringe to the ends?

I agree with Krystal! Fringe it out! <3 and maybe a new paint job ontop the old one?

If you cut off the old fluke and sew on a new one, you can probably make the seam into a V-shape or a rounded shape, to try and not make it as noticeable (just add more scales in that area).

These are all great ideas! Thank you. :)
