I have a wave monofin but I would really prefer not to cut it and I want a monofin that looks more like a mermaid's fin. If anyone makes custom monofins, definitely let me know! Otherwise, I'm considering getting an Oceanika monofin.

Also, is there anyway to extend my wave monofin's shape? If I could add onto the shap somehow rather than cutting it that would be great. I don't just want to cut the fabric in a different shape though and create a bunch of unwanted drag when I swim.

I saw your pictures, what exactly did you do? It looks like you added to the end of your monofin somehow but it's hard to tell what materials you used.

You are correct Raina she does an if I remember correctly I think she charges around $50.00. I may be wrong

Where can I find Raina? Is she a member here?

Anthony was talking directly to Raina. Firemaid I believe is who makes them.

I used thick clear plastic and spray-glued about five layers together. Then covered it with chiffon. But I have ended up scrapping it cause it was all just too long :(

I extended my Wave using duct tape and zip ties. I haven't been able to swim with it too much, but it held together fine for the two swims I have managed. You can see how I did it here: http://mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?2548-First-time-tailmaking-Jade-s-attempt

However, the way I used zip ties means you do have to cut the ridges off the very edge of the monofin (leave the ones in the middle) to where the zip ties attach. Past that point I just sanded the ridge down so it sloped into the now-flat section for a nicer look. Leave the middle ridges though, or you'll lose propulsion.

If you don't want to cut any off, you can extend it to make it longer/shaped different at the end and not make it any wider :) Putting something else like craft foam or plastic between the duct tape layers can also affect how fluid vs stiff that section is.

Yeah, I'm thinking of the wrong person. Whoops. :P

Cool, I think I'm going to try extending my monofin somehow. It seems like a lot of work but it's easier than making an entire fluke.

It's really not a lot of work... a few hours, maybe days.... If you look around the forum you'll find out how to do it. You are going to find that, unless you have a lot of cash up front for a pro tail, any kind of really nice tail you make yourself is a lot of work, and a lot of trial and error. We all go thru it. Just look and read, it'll help. Best of luck to you. :)

I would make my own fin but I don't have the resources. All the things I would need would be so hard to find where I live and I don't have a pool or live close enough to one where I could test out monofins. I just need something that I know will work. I think I am going to try and extend the shape though.

Hey there! YES, I make custom monofins! It has taken me 5 years to make and develop these unique mermaid inspired monofins.

As of right now I have two styles of monofin shapes to choose from. The Sirena, and the Classic. The Sirena was inspired by the Pirates of the Caribbean 4 mermaids. It features long, scalloped flukes that give a little individual movement to achieve that real life fish look! The Classic is more of a moon shape, with curved edges that go into points, and is great for propulsion!

Excerpt from my Etsy website:
"Each and every Custom Mermaid Fin is hand made. The fin itself is constructed of a flexible, durable plastic material that retains its shape and flexibility. The boots are covered with black neoprene (wetsuit material) to hide their shape from being seen under the mermaid tail outfit. The fin is also resistant to pool chemicals, as well as sea water. It provides excellent propulsion, while achieving the aesthetics that are essential for a realistic a mermaid tail."
