I would love to start up a Mermaid swim school for kids that run in the summer holidays and was wondering if anyone had any ideas or help with getting things started? I will need to look into public liability insurance, talk to the local pools and start my swim instructor training while its winter. Brrrrrr! I will also be investing in many different sized Oceanika merfins and outfits :D I want to have three different stages of Mermaid swim school like beginners; where the kids start off in the shallow part of the pools to learn the ropes and then the second stage will be venturing into the deep and getting strong and confident and then the third stage will be a full fledged Mermaid and that will be down the beach where they can have underwater photo's and certificates handed out. What are your thoughts??

Lucky, I've always wanted to do that. What state do you live in? If you get it up and running I would love to join!

I have done the ring around and got all my info on what I need to do;
First is a refresher course on my senior first aid
Second a working with children permit
Third book my Swim teacher course and do my 20 hours practicle :p
I'm also in discussion at the moment with a representative of Oceanika Merfins with purchasing a handful of fins in different sizings
Once all that's done I have to obtain Public Liability Insurance
I've already started a facebook site behind closed doors at the moment so I can have it all ready to launch once I'm ready! :yay:
And all being done in between my photography business! Phew it's going to be a hectic few months but totally worth it!!!!

I have finished writing up my power point presentation :yay:
Just need some fresh new photos of some mermaids and a trip to the pool for some under water shots to make the whole thing come together!
Insurance is done!
The refresher course on my first aid is next on the to do list

I'm talking with a private swim instructor soon because I might be able to use her, still have the refresher first aid to do and I'm looking for little potential mers at the moment to make some tails and do a few underwater photo shoots. Finances have been at an all time low but once I climb out, it will be all hands on deck! but here is my page anyway https://www.facebook.com/pages/Busselton-Mermaids/114693991990437?ref=hl nearly done! I can see the light at the end of the tunnel :yay:

There are several Mermaid swim schools for children around where I live.
It's on the news frequently too.

Hopefully, it doesn't become TOO mainstream...but a few more decent swimmers can't hurt.
I'm always delighted if I meet someone at the pool bottom swimming by :D

Just an update on my little Swim school.
It's nearly summer now and things with the instructor are taking a little to long so I will be progressing with this during the new year to be ready for our next summer in 2015.
But this has not stopped me starting up Busselton Mermaids!
I have gone full steam ahead with offering a package for all the little girls and boys that want to experience becoming a mermaid! They get a full mermaid makeover, hire of a tail to splash about in the shallows with, professional photography by yours truly and all the digital editing and magic of photo shop to bring it all together :D
I recently had car door magnets made to display my business, business cards, gift certificates, a shirt and a large banner to display. I am already booked solid for four weeks straight with more booking every few days! Very exciting!!

I finished a mermaid float today for our local Coles Float Parade :)
It has a coral long coral bench for six mermaids and also some coral around the sides of the trailer which are all brightly coloured. The little mermaids will be given bubbles to blow and I may even have a couple of pirates to help out and keep them safe. I cannot wait for the weekend :yay:

The float parade was so much fun the girls got saturated from head to fin with water pistols etc which was a welcome relief from the 41 degree heat LOL http://mernetwork.com/index/album.php?albumid=902
