As part of my Professional Mermaid Gig Index (http://mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?2756-Professional-Mermaid-Gigs-%28index-amp-ideas-from-Raina%29) series, I wanted to share a recent charity event I donated my time to!

Last weekend Mermaid Mimi and I donated our time to the annual Children's Wish Foundation Princess Tea Party. Participants buy a ticket and get to enjoy loads of princess, prince, and pirate and mermaid themed stuff. We ended up stealing the show a little haha and I think the princesses weren't to happy about it. But yeah, very easy. We had stuff prepared but we basically had a line up for 2.5 hours of kids waiting to get an autograph, touch us, and get a photo! It was crazy.

I really support Children's Wish Foundation. The money goes locally to our children's hospital, and sponsors a child to have a "dream" come "true" that is dealing with illness. When I was a child they sent me to Disney! So it has a special place in my heart.

I only have a few photos to share for now.

I am sooo impressed! The kids LOVED you! What a wonderful event to contribute to any Children's charities! The pony tail was really nice, and I don't think the kids would have cared how your hair looked, they were so excited to get your autograph! Just marvelous! I love the events that Mers do to promote charity! Kudos!

That's so awesome! The instant I thought of charities I'd like to donate to for future planing, and organizations like Make A Wish was on the top of my list. I think it's so great they have an event like that to Raise funds and make bring joy to children as well :) You guys look so cute! I bet all the princesses wished they were mermaids!

I've got a FB video too, I can never seem to get them to embed on the network here for some reason, but you can see the cute little clips here:

I love volunteering, but I only volunteer for certain things, and I budget how much time I can give away. Even before being a mermaid I was one of those people who volunteered for everything and I'd always end up sick and exhausted. I love to support children's charities. I do suggest that a good rule of thumb for volunteering is this: If you're starting out, do as much as you can for a SET period of time, to help you gain experience and get your name out there. But after that, choose an amount you're willing to do each year (by time, hours, money, whatever you want to set it to) and stick to it. If everyone else is volunteering (like in this instance) then obviously you do it too. but if everyone else is being paid and you're offered an opportunity to donate... then I'd reconsider ;)
