Part One: 5/5 Stars!

I received my very first mermaid tail from Mermaid Morticia yesterday and had my first swim in it! This is my first portion of the review, the second portion to come after the tail is again taken in and painted. :)

First, I feel very fortunate that I live near a tailmaker. Morticia allowed me to come visit her to take my measurements in person. I asked lots of questions and she was never once annoyed with me (to my knowledge! XD). She also took measurements for a top that would match the tail. She was very kind, courteous and professional. I gave her the money in person and told her I was going on a diet and exercise regime and Morticia decided perhaps it would be good to take in the tail just a bit before my next fitting. My initial visit was the first Saturday in April. I happily agreed and got to take a little "tour" of her workshop and see a few other tails in progress as well!

In the meantime, I spent much of my free hours exercising and eating healthier to fit into the tail's new measurements. Morticia took everything in by half an inch. My first fitting would be May 4th so I was working very hard!

May 4th rolls around and my mother and I excitedly pull up to Morticia's for my first fitting. During the time I was working out, Morti took the time to send me text updates (we exchanged numbers) and info through Facebook as well, so I knew the Rapid monofin had come in, as had the paints and the neoprene was sewn. I was so excited! Morticia taught me how to get in and out of the "sleeve" (the tail wasn't fully sewn yet because we were finding out whether my workouts had paid off) with the monofin on my feet. Surprise, surprise! My workouts paid off tremendously and in total, the tail had to be taken in about two whole inches! I was ecstatic!

We arranged our first swim for Sunday, May 19th. I continued to work out and found that the tail was a smidge loose in areas, which was not unexpected. Morti allowed me to keep the tail for now and it will be measured again, taken in and painted just before Seadog Nights and Gypsy Carnival 2013, which is in mid-July. The reason the tail is not painted yet is because the final design has stripes and having to take the tail in again would mess up the stripe pattern. I completely agree. :)

So for the first half of the review, definitely 5/5 stars!

Currently, my tail is solid black with a long, pointed fluke. I'll be posting pictures sometime this week. I have another swim arranged today too!

And an awful video of me smacking my chin into the bottom of the pool. XD

How deep was the pool you were swimming in?

Barely 5 feet at the deepest. Tonight I'm swimming in a pool 10 feet deep and with goggles this time. XD I was blinded by the intense amount of chlorine in that pool!

Ugh I always smack my chin on the bottom. But i'm usually going without goggles in a chlorine pool, which is not ideal.

As painful as it is, I'm glad I'm not the only one. XD <3

I don't recognize Morticia's tail, or am I confused? xD

Morticia made a new tail to swim in instead of using her sequin one. I don't think the sequin one is finished yet. :)

OH, all right! I haven't seen it before. Neat, though! I love the colors.

I forgot to post this earlier! I have the second half of the tail review ready. :)

Part Two: 5/5 Stars!

I drove down to Morticia's at the end of June to drop the tail off for some tailoring and the new paint job. Morti asked me how it was fitting, how I was taking care of it and if the seams needed resewing. The only issue I had was more inch loss, which she happily remedied by taking the tail in again. Morti was always very patient and courteous!

She sent me updates via text and Facebook with how the pattern came out. I adore it. Picking it up again the following weekend, I made a mad dash to the pool to make sure I was ready for Seadog Nights! The pattern looks amazing in the water and the tail fits better than ever. She also modified the tips of the fluke by sewing part of them shut so they wouldn't collect as much water when getting out of the pool. It helps so much since I have less water retained in the tail!

Morti also modified the waist band since I had a problem of it curling over on itself when I swam, revealing the flesh-toned inner lining of the tail. It no longer gives me this problem.

Overall, love it! I am very blessed to work so closely with Morti. Very happy mermaid here!

Edit - There is no monofin in the tail in these pics (I left it at home) so that's why the fluke looks so flat.

Awesome tail! I've been wanting to get my hands on one of her tails. Is there an email address or do I have to go through Facebook?

For the time being, probabaly the best way is through FB. it usually generates the fastest response, since it's linked RIGHT to her phone!
