Guys, I think I might be a genius!
So, I have been making a tail for the past year out of used wetsuits, but I came to a stop at the end of last summer because I couldn't find any more cheap wetsuits at thrift stores or on Craigslist.
But finally today I came up with a brilliant idea. A BRILLIANT IDEA.:jawdrop:
I decided to visit my local dive shops and ask if they had any old wetsuits that they were planning on throwing away. At one store, the guy at the counter went into the back and came out with four wetsuits! I asked how much they cost, and he said that since he was going to throw them away anyway, I could just have them for free.
FOUR. FREE. WETSUITS.:yay:
Why did I not think about this a year ago?
Now, I have called other dive stores, and they do sell their used wetsuits instead of giving them away, so you may not be as lucky as I. But if you're looking to make a tail out of recycled wetsuits, I definitely recommend calling your local dive shops before you do anything else.
(Also, quick plug for tailmaking from old wetsuits. They are a super great idea! The wetsuits that would have been thrown away are now put to good use, so it's good for the environment!)
Hopefully I'll get back to work on my recycled-wetsuit tail soon. If you want to track my progress, visit this thread (http://mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?2193-Tailmaking-from-old-wetsuits&highlight=tails+wetsuits).
