I want to purchase a mono fin before I invest in a tail but there are so many options. Does it matter or should I look for a certain brand or shape?

My first set of flippers were what I used for my first "monofin" I say this because those flippers acted as my first monofin because of the fact I dolphin kicked in them all the time, like I was wearing a monofin.
My actual 1st monofin was the finis tempo monofin. I love it and still have it, although my latest monofin is the finis competitor, and it's my favorite!

I definitely would recommend using flippers are first and swim with your feet together.
Once you're used to this then go for a finis foil or wave (new version of the tempo, since the tempo has been discontinued)
Good luck!

I have a foil. It was super easy to learn on!

Foil, Wave or Mahina Fin seem to be the best first ones! In order of amount of cash, too. :P

I've only tried one monofin so far, the finis foil, and I have mixed feelings about it. I just finished writing a rather in depth review of it. Its rather long winded, but I hope it can help answer any questions other mers might have about it.
