My competitor monofin arrived today.

I noticed a white film on all of the footpocket, which is sticky and slightly grainy.
I rubbed it off, but after a while, some more emerged:confused:

Any idea what that might be (and is it toxic)?

I'd call Finis directly and ask them about that

snap.
I got it over a retailer in my country.

Maybe it wasn't exactly brand-new?
I really have no idea.
I just hope it's not caulk or something *scared*

Eww. I would recommend taking pictures of the white stuff and send them to the retailer you got it from. See if they know what it is, and if you can send back the one you have to get a new one that won't have the white stuff on it.

Contacted them, and they say the white stuff is a normal thing that develops on rubber when it is stored (??),
and that it can be washed off with soapwater.

Hmm...

Its probably something similar to what happens to some vinyl, where the material breaks down a bit and the plasticizer (I'm not sure what teh rubber equivalent would be) leaches out. Its not really dangerous and won't affect it too much for a long time yet, though after a long time of it the rubber will feel harder and less flexible.
