Hello everyone :)
So, I'm brand new to the mermaiding community. I've always had a love of mermaids, especially in art and literature. I love to draw mermaids (although I'm too shy to share) and am currently working on a story, to be titled "Sea Sisters". Since I don't actually have a tail yet (and it's unlikely to happen until I'm living on more than a poor-student budget) I can't really call myself a mermaid, so instead I'll go by Sea Sister for now. :)
I can't exactly remember how I found out about mermaiding as a hobby, but I remember when I first found out about Hannah Fraser and was just absolutely blown away! It was so cool to me to find a woman so skilled with free diving that she could convincingly impersonate a mermaid. But of course, I figured that mermaiding was something that only qualified free- and SCUBA- divers could pursue. Imagine my surprise, then, when upon a little more research I found out others like Hannah; others who, experienced in free-diving or not, were pursuing their dreams of being a mermaid. So, here I am now - gobsmacked that there's such a large community of people with the same calling to do something that many others would consider nerdy, childish, or just plain weird. I'm very glad to have found out about this, because now I feel like I have a real motivation to lose weight, get in shape and improve my breath hold/lung capacity, and save up money to purchase a tail... hopefully one made by Merbella Raven! It's thanks to the inspiring women such as Raven, Raina, Melissa and, of course, Hannah that I've made my decision to make mermaiding a real hobby. Although I can't afford a tail yet and am virtually useless with a needle and thread, I hope to learn all I can about mermaiding, make friends and connections, and overall use this site as my motivation to just keep swimming. <3
I apologize for the long introduction, but I thank anyone who puts in the time to read this. Also, I'd love to hear from you all! I'm anxious to make some new friends here, especially those who live in the Northwest Pacific region!
Ciao for now,
The Sea Sister
