How to find/choose your mermaid name

So I'm having an issue and I hope all you wonderful Mers can help me,

I want a mermaid name but I have no idea how to go about finding/choosing one

Any advice or tips or anything would be greatly appreciated <3

I think there is a thread about this somewhere, many people use google translate or look up celtic/african/scottish/random language words that relate to the water, or using Elvish, or old gods/goddesses like athena, some people name themselves after their favorite fish, I found my name from a book I was reading after trying all of the above.

Hmmm those are good ideas...I kinda wanna stick with the celtic theme because of my heritage Im half Irish half Scottish so maybe I should go that direction

What I like to do for persona names (characters, etc.) is think of some sort of trait you'd like the character to embody such as "kindness" or "water," then go to various baby name searches and look for name meanings or origins that fit. I'm at a toss up between a Native word that's more personal to me and a word that refers to a local body of water near me.

Look around. Write them down, then say them in your head. Make sure it's a name that resonates with you in some way, so that if you're with a big group of mers and someone calls your "mer name," you'd answer to it pretty promptly. lol

I've been puzzling over a proper name myself (Pony the mermaid doesn't really roll off the tongue) I'd really have preferred a name in Lenape since it goes with my planned tail design and heritage, but trying to find something easily pronounced and pretty sounding is proving tricky. The Lenape word for mermaid is wèwtunëwès which is a little more than most people can manage...

a lot of celtic names are really awesome for mermaid names! you can look them up almost anywhere. or elvish/fantasy names work really well too. anything that pertains to you :D

I went with Hawaiian because I love tropical fish and just love the native fish of Hawai'i. I am in no way, shape or form Hawaiian.

So, find a culture (which, from what you said is Celtic) and go pick one. :-)
