I got the job!

Hey everyone!

My name is Jessica and I am new to the thread. I just landed a job with a casino water park near my apartment and they want me to come mermaid for them. Looks like I will be needing a tail and top and I have already contacted Raven :D (fingers crossed) Just wondering what you professional mers charge per hour when preforming. I appreciate any and all advice!

Hi Jessica. Congrats on the job. You def should get a practice tail while you're waiting for your Raven tail! Maybe a cheap fabric thing you can work on your moves with while your main one is being made!

As far as cost, it's kinda different all across the board and depends on a lot of factors. You might find the book I just published very helpful as I talk in detail about that things and other things you might find helpful in terms of working as a professional mermaid :) http://rai925.wix.com/howtobeamermaid there's a PDF version you can read right from your computer!

I'd start by getting on some of the classified sites and checking out what other performers are charging.

I actually already own a fabric tail from FoxMoon Productions. It was the only thing I wanted for my 17th birthday and now that I am 22 I think it is time for an upgrade.

Congratulations!!!! I'm so excited for you! I'm also very jealous lol. As for your tail colors it's your tail at the end of the day so pick whatever colors are your favorite. :D

Wow, I would love to have a job like that! For your tail color, I would suggest taking a moment to think: what image appears in your mind when someone says 'mermaid'? For me, I knew my tail would have to be mostly green, because that's always how I've always imagined them. Of course, green is also my favorite color, lol. I'd say print out (or photoshop, but I'm just horrid at it, so I print them) some of the tail templates that Merbellas has and color them in. I went through so many tail templates figuring out what looks good together. Also you'd get to see how the colors look with your choice of fluke style too.

LOL, colours are a tricky thing! My favorite colour is pink, and I was certain most of my tails would be pink... But I've discovered that I adore colours like gold, bronze, dark red, dark POTC-type tails and the like for myself, with maybe some pink accents... But anytime I hold a pink fabric over my legs, or try to envision me in a very PINK tail, I just don't see it... Which is funny because about 50% of my wardrobe is pink, then I figured I should probably get a few other colours to supplement the black LOL.

And it's funny, I am so not a gold person normally... I've always been a silver person, but the mermaid in me LOVES gold! :D

Also, my silicone tail in the works... will have pink. But not like... Pink EXPLOSION like most of my clothes, instead it's going to be white/green/pink :D
