Ever since I was a little girl I loved going to the beach, the pool, and mermaids. I also happen to be an artist. I paint, sculpt and draw. Just ordered my first monofin and hope to embelish it with latex and paint to make it to my liking. Hoping for something like a cross between the Mahina merfin and those on realistic tails. Later this summer, I hope to start my actual tail. I have no aspirations to perform as a mermaid, rather my skills as an artist would lend themselves more to tail making. Looking forward to getting to know you all and and happy mermaiding!

I feel the same way, I don't really have dreams to become a professional mermaid, just day dreaming of swimming in a tail and learn how to dive properly and hold my breath.. But most of all I'm inspired by DIY tailmaking.. I love to draw, sculpt and paint. So this seems like a great way to extend my portfolio! And seems fun to do plus some new techniques to learn <3

the disclaimer at the end of the show said that SOME parts of the footage were fictitious... it did not clarify WHICH parts were fictitious... That could have meant the reenactments were fiction. If the whole thing is fiction they should be required to clarify this SPECIFICALLY imo instead of posting and evasive disclaimer that does not really say much.

Thank you both. I ordered a Finis Foil and a gallon of Latex to coat it . Next week I will start adorning my monofin!! :)

PS I figured it is pointless to put silicone on top of the monofin when the monofin itself is not even silicone. Does anyone know for certain what the base of Finis Foil is made of? looks like latex rubber.

I am not 100% sure but I think the foil is a heavy rubber.

thank you guys looking forward to working on my monofin in a few days. Havent decided what to do for the body of my tail yet. Whether I hop right into a silicone tail off the bat or start with something else.

I just went to fill out my profile for the first time and saw that someone had already put in inaccurate information in my profile!! So I guess that means I had been hacked.
Anyways, I started filling it out myself with correct info this time.

My Finis Monofin arrived and I made an outline of the fin I desire. I will make the sketch perfectly symmetrical and proceed with the construction.

ok I got my paints today. Ive got gold, pearl and bronze, I need some dark brown too for accents. Have the latex, pattern and the monofin. Now just waiting on some 15" nylon zip ties to serve as fish fin bones in the latex and give some structural strength where the finis foil cuts off. I will start the embellishment of the monofin as soon as the zip ties arrive.

PS Went swimming in my Finis Foil. I love how it helped me to automatically get the stroke better.. I hate how it makes me feel like a cripple though when out of the water wearing it.
