I saw a news article on this yesterday. The thing I couldn't get was the comment section, where most people were rational, but there were a few screaming: feminists! blah blah. Seriously? If any guy tried any of the moves in that book on me he'd be lucky to walk away with assult charges. Let's just say those double pointed needles I use to knit socks may and can be used for other purposes, and I'm a writer with a good imagination. . . . :P

I am just really shocked that kickstarter claims that the material wasn't against their tos and they didn't have any reason to take it down. I wonder if they thought that it would blow over and he wouldn't get enough funds. Unfortunately with the media getting involved there were probably more people donating who wouldn't have otherwise just because they believe in free speech, not the actual content of the book. And, yes, unfortunately I know some people like this. As soon as gun rights became an issue, they went out to buy a gun just because "the Government said I can't have one." :S Sadly, I don't think they took safety classes or probably lock them properly up at home either, but that's another issue entirely. Beyond the petition there are two things anyone can do. 1) Don't buy the book. 2) Use another outlet to raise funds other than Kickstarter (and there are a few others out there). Hitting someone in the wallet can sometimes be the best way to getting your point across.

I'm unfortunately not surprised. Reddit has a number of these arseholes, this guy is one they look up to. They are disgusting excuses for men, but they'll never see it that way. (I avoid Reddit, btw. Just pointing out that one of the largest sites on the web has plenty of these losers.)

First, there is no taking back money from the project or canceling funding after the fact. When the project was funded the backers’ money went directly from them to the creator. We missed the window.

Third, we are prohibiting “seduction guides,” or anything similar, effective immediately. This material encourages misogynistic behavior and is inconsistent with our mission of funding creative works. These things do not belong on Kickstarter.
Fourth, today Kickstarter will donate $25,000 to an anti-sexual violence organization called RAINN (http://www.rainn.org/). It’s an excellent organization that combats exactly the sort of problems our inaction may have encouraged.

In an era where we're trying to make people realize that teaching people not to rape is the only way to prevent it, this guy's teaching the opposite.

What we need to do as a nation is start to reach out to this segment of society that's made up of lonely, awkward, resentful men who don't know how to socialize with women in a way that lends itself to developing loving romantic relationships. They're ridiculed as "Nice Guys" and we spitefully lecture them on how they suck, and how they have ulterior motives for interacting with females, but it's these men that the seduction industry preys upon.

That's what I mean. Start socializing these people and giving them tools to channel their frustrations in constructive ways instead of villifying them or giving them more to feel resentful about. There is another way that doesn't require objectifying females simply because lack of socialization and proper instruction has led to unanimous rejection that has led to misogynistic hatred.

This guy raised thousands of dollars already- I don't know the exact amount. He doesn't even have to deliver. People gave him thousands of dollars for this book, knowing fully what it is about.

I can't even put into words what people like that need to do with themselves.

The biggest lie of this book is that these techniques are seduction. There might be some of that, but most of what this book is about, just as the title of this thread says, is rape. It's not even about sex, it's about power, and the guys who buy into this... damn if I were a man, I would SO pissed off about this and any book like it. Any mom of a boy should be pissed off that someone is trying to convince her boys that this is what sex is about. As a mom of a girl, I'm pissed off that I have to raise my daughter to remember that some guys are like this, and you can never be too careful. It should NOT fall on us to prevent rape. It should fall on society to prevent rapists, DAMMIT.

We linked to the apology - but this guy meeting with anyone will do no good, if you've ever read him on Reddit, he's a sick, disgusting excuse for a human being who talks about how great it was in Iceland because rape laws are different, and you can get a woman drunk and have her pass out, have sex with her, and it's not rape.

He's a really horrible person- he might be a big liar, he might be honestly be relating tales from his disgusting life. Either way, he's making the world a much worse place.

I'm really glad that this has been exposed... but on the other hand, he's getting a lot of free publicity, and that unfortunately sucks.

It all just sucks.

I was raised in a very religious house hold where we dress modestly as to not tempt men. I CAN'T EVEN BELIEVE I WAS TAUGHT THAT LET ALONE THAT PEOPLE STILL TEACH IT. Rape culture is RAMPANT with staggering number (1/4 or 1/3 in some areas ) of women having experienced rape. I bet at least 1/4 of people here on mernet have either experienced it or sexual assault. Women shouldn't have to constantly protect themselves, MEN SHOULD BE TAUGHT TO BE DECENT HUMAN BEINGS WHO RESPECT OTHERS.

Ugh, yeah it got funded. That means he gets to publish the book. I think all we can do is follow the updates on the book and demand publishers/organizations to take it down when he puts it up, unfortunately everyone who gave more than $15 gets a copy, or several of the books so it's going to be out there for a long time.:/

This makes my blood boil. I just signed the petition. I will be showing this to my friends and family too so they can sign. Behavior like this from men should never be tolerated or supported. When reading the details about some of this 'dating advice' like pulling girls onto your lap, whipping it out and putting her hands on your genitals, I was SHOCKED. This behavior sounds like stuff from a porno...if people want to do what I just repeated in private, CONSENTUALLY, fine. But this is IN NO WAY CONSENSUAL. It's sexual assault. And as I stated on the website when signing the petition, (and yes, knowing my temper I could really do this and get in a lot of trouble for it) if a man EVER dares to treat me like this, THINGS WILL GET UGLY...FAST.
