arrrrrgh Merverts! and arrrgh Facebook!

Argggg!! So some lame-o was posting crude sexual things on my mermaid page, I simply deleted them. I tried to ban him from page, but the option didn't pop up like it usually does. One of the things he posted on was a pic of Ama when she was 10 years old -_-. Then, Ama texts me at 2am last night cuz he went over and posted on her facebook page! Though, leave it to Ama, she handles it well. He posts, "where is your mer-gina located?" and she responds, "far away from you." LOL. Anyway, I go to do the same thing, but my only options now are just delete. (Usually it says delete, hide, ban user etc). So when I delete it it doesn't even DELETE it says the public will no longer be able to see the comment, but he will be able to along with his friends. Like what the actual fu*k facebook? So I report it, and usually you can select from a drop down menu what to report... and then it gives me the option to ban, so I do. But, instead of the usual "this user is banned from your page" I get, "this user's comments are banned from showing up publicly on your page" (paraphrasing cuz I didn't grab screenshots)

So thanks facebook, for making it even easier for merverts to get away with harassing us -_-.

So heads up people! The removing of comments, and the banning on users, isn't like it used to be! All it really does now is make it so YOU can't see the stuff anymore. I suggest adding common sexual words to your moderation list so comments like that get automatically filtered.

I really liked MySpace before the ads invaded it, which was probably a bit before your time. 100% customizable, and completely private if you wanted it to be. It was before it occurred to people that you could use social media against individuals. No company would ever make you log into your myspace in an interview. I don't particularly mind FB, but I also don't get harassed.

FB used to let you be "friends only" and turn off the "add friend" button waaaay back in 04/05. It just sucks, with so much controversy over teen suicides etc, facebook relaxes it rules instead of making it easier to get help. Don't listen to anyone who lies about getting FB to cooperate with the police, or saying their lawyer got FB to give them info etc. We have a family member who works specifically in cybercrimes with RCMP and they said FB doesn't do a damn thing for anyone. There have been murder cases, and attempts to subpoena FB have been thwarted because of various international laws. Our contact likened it to "crime in international waters". It's easier for police to confiscate your computer and access your facebook that way, then try and get FB to hand over your information. BUT THEY WILL SELL IT TO ADVERTISERS. Like seriously. Facebook is becoming big brother. I love running fanpages, but as most people are realizing, FB is doing everything to either force you to pay for fanpages services or make it totally unworthwhile to run a page and rely on it for business. Even with what they charge you for, they don't promote your stuff to the people who actually subscribe to the page.

I do absolutely hate that FB is super regulated where it doesn't matter. I just tried to make Mermaid Varshana my alternate name...and it wouldn't let me do it without contacting the FB headquarters. There's also a limit on how often you can change your name, even if it screws up the order of your name (which has happened to me many times). I had to ask FB headquarters for permission to change my maiden name to my married name.

This is why I hate facebook period. Networking on Tumblr and Twitter is so much easier. Also getting your own domain can be an option, but you have to pay something for that.

But yeah, Facebook is almost geared toward appeasing the pervs. Some girl was banned for a month from Facebook because someone reported her picture of locals from Africa as inappropriate because some of them didn't have shirts. Yet the numerous slut videos all over the site are okay.

Facebook might be the most well-known platform, but from everything I've tried, it is the least user-friendly anyway. Look around for something new, you can always link from facebook to steer that traffic toward you and away from the trolls.
