Fairy Name and Mermaid Name- Same?

A few days ago, I got the strange idea to dress as fairy, go to my city park, and pick up trash. My city park is beautiful but it does have trash around. I don't like seeing trash just sitting on the ground. Plus I would get to troll around as fairy. I am going to make my wings. I'm still unsure on my costume. I made a sort of journal to draw or write in while I'm there. On the back it says 'Property of (name) the Fairy'. But I'm not sure about my fae name. Should it be the same as my mermaid name (Mermaid Eris/ Eris the Fairy) or a seperate name?(Mermaid Eris/ Scarlet the Fairy) Also tell me what you think of this idea. Any advice/ suggestions? Thankies!:)

First off, let me just say that you're awesome :) Second, I think it depends on whether you feel your mersona and faecade are different enough to deserve different names, you know what I mean?

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. Technically, mermaids are a type of fairy, right? (I could be wrong) But that is a good point. I'll have to think on whether they're different or the same 'person'.

Is there a forum like the mernetwork for fairies? Cool idea about cleaning up the park. I love the idea of walking around in fairy drag just for the fun of it AND doing some good. For your name, I guess it depends on whether you feel like having separate names for different appearances or going with the "they're both me" idea. Is Eris a sharpshooter, or are Eris and Scarlet unique facets of you? Also, whether Merfolk are a kind of Fairy/faery/fae/fey/etc or whether the two are separate classifications depends on the setting. Myth and folklore, as well as symbolism and emotional similarities to humans seem to suggest that merfolk are distinct from fairies, but a lot of modern fantasy (drawing on scientific taxonomy and modern understanding of life and cultures) describes merfolk as a type of Fairy.

This reminds me of an idea I had that I think would be a lot of fun and a great way to encourage young people (and old) to focus on keeping beaches clean. I always thought it would be cool to be dressed as a mermaid and combing the ocean for garbage alongside a mertender walking along the shore picking up garbage. I think it would be really inspiring for children to see a mermaid (omg, mommy, a mermaid!) actively trying to clean up the beach. I think it would get the message across far more effectively than just an adult telling them to pick up garbage - it sets an example, AND it's an example by an amazing, beautiful, mythical creature. XD

J&R, I asked about a fairy forum once too, but nobody knew anything about one. I think Iona said something about them being mostly active offline.

I'd love to get to know other fairies though. I make wings but have no ideas for the rest of my clothes. I haven't chosen a name either:(

I am, but more in a (dance-)-performance way, rather than LARP/cosplay.
I've read every scrap of faery lore from all around the world I could find, and I've come to the conclusion they are at the bottom of every religion.
It's easy to see with nature religions, of course, but if you read up on angels a bit- as they were described originally
(messengers from the strange "sky gods"; normal dudes, but in weird, shining clothes, having awesome weapons giving off laser beams and loud "thunder"), and then consider how they are viewed in general by people- shining, ethereal winged beings, often invisible, having miraculous magical powers-, it's easy to see where that idea came from :)

People have always believed in the magic of nature, and nature spirits.
Even when the missionaries used force and threat of death trying to erase the folk religions, in the end all they achieved was renaming the ancient forces and holidays.
Which is quite ironic, methinks.

Anyway.
I wouldn't dress up as a fairy and pretend to be one like I could with mermaiding, because it's virtually impossible to do that convincingly;
I cannot fly, I cannot turn invisible, nor do any of the things that were required to pull such an act off.
(Of course, not all Fairies were described of doing something like that, but it is what people/kids will expect of you).

I do however think that dressing up as either a mermaid or a fairy to raise awareness for a cause like pollution is a fantastic idea!
I hope you do it.

I'm into fairies too :) I've been planning on making an outfit for the fairy festival we have here.
I also looked for some fairy forums but found nothing :( (I coul barely even find any fairy costumes that weren't for little kids or halloween [as in fairy personas])

Fae magazine is actually by the same people who make mermaids an mythology :) I've never picked it up because it tends to have more of a metaphysical / new age lean rather than what I thought it would have (tutorials,going ons in the community,costumes,etc) though it may have changed since the year I picked it up
