Omg Arion. I'm obsessed with your butt no kidding I can't stop thinking about it.
I used to have a good ass, but as I got older it got dimples and my husband doesn't call it squishy anymore. He had a pet name for it. But when I got pregnant, squishy went away never to return :-(
Hey SeaGlass Siren ... I HAVE TAI BO! I found the DVD in the weekend, oh how I've missed Billy Blanks<3
My aim is to combine those exercises, with the squats exercises from Arion.

So I believe I have posted about my caffeine addiction before, well I tried to stop but I kept getting migraines bodypains anger restlessness extreme tired feeling just a bunch of stuff, so I couldnt do it. Then I became pregnant, and the cravings and everything else just stopped. No more waking up in the middle of the night for a fix. I think it has to do with my hormones or something. I'm just worried that it will start up again once the baby is born.

It probably won't- you'll have been off the caffiene for so long that the addiction will have been beaten. I hope you can take the opportunity and not start again! Caffeine- gah so insidious and so not benign as people want to believe.
My apartment bldg has the gas turned on again. woohoo! This means I can workout tomorrow morning, because the hot water works again.
Migraine or not I am freaking going to workout in the morning. I still don't own a scale but my bf does and it's a fancy schmancy one which I trust. I do not like what I saw, but it accurately reflects the changes I already knew had happened. Bah.

I need more swimming. Cos I can't run 10 steps without feeling like I'm gonna pass out! I'm so out of shape! I used to do running and high jumps at high school many years ago, I was even champion in one year! But that was over 30 years ago. Couch lounging has taken over instead! I prefer swimming too, mainly because I need to wear custom arch supports and even after a few hours of walking in them, my feet will be sore and hurts to walk on, like not wearing arches at all! I find swimming is less painful on the legs too. Maybe less impact?
swimmingsammi95
03-18-2014, 09:49 AM
Definitely less impact! and works your whole body plus builds cardio and lung strength.
So even though I may be young and you all might say that I have nothing to worry about, I'm determined to lose a couple of pounds by this summer. I'm not aiming for a skinny twig (that's nearly impossible in my family - we have thick thighs xD ) but I want to take off just enough. In the past week I've been working out more and eating right (gosh darn it I LOVE food ) And I've already lost a pond whoo!
I'd like to share with you something that REALLY helps me! It's an app called 'Lose It' and it's on the Apple App Store (not sure about other devices). Anyways, you put in information about yourself like age, gender, weight, how much you want to lose, etc. And by taking that information it tells you how many calories you SHOULD be consuming per day and about how long it will take for you to reach your goal. You can log down what you've eaten and it shows you a bunch of different information about it, and how many calories you have left for that day. I think it is a really great motivator and it's worth a shot, because it has DEFINITELY helped me so far!

Make sure to keep the motivation going and do this squats challenge everyday. Working out on a regular basis always give results if you give it 100%. If you stop, you won't get the results you're looking for. Period.
I used to have no ass 4 years ago, now I proudly have a firm bubble butt. Also nutrition is important too so pay attention of what you eat and drink. It's 50% of the job. True story :)

Well, first of all, you have to make sure that your position is right. Are you doing these squats like you should? Here is an example :

As you can see, it's a bit more technical than people might think. So my advice would be to make them slowly at first to get it right and once you have the balance for it, you can do them with more energy. Keep in mind though that doing them slowly is also very good! It builds strenght and endurance too :)

As someone who has had arthriscopic knee surgery, I can tell you right now that you do not need to squat that deeply! Your quads and glutes will get the same benefit and you won't blow out your knee ligaments! And never do squats deeper than parallel with the floor. I'm a Old. If I can offer one piece of advice to you youngsters, it's TAKE CARE OF YOUR KNEES!
If you want a great ass exercise, do standing side leg lifts - standing straight up, holding into a pole or chair back, slowly lift your leg up to the side, toes forward, foot flat, keeping your back straight. Repeat for several reps, them repeat with the other leg.
Roller skating will give you a nice booty, too. ;)

Arion, the squats really paid off...as was evident in your pic with the rose. That ass should be in film! lol I was in a similar boat until I started working out regularly, eating well, and adding some cardio. It helped me to gain 25 lbs. of lean muscle. The squats, walking lunges and dead lifts gave me a great butt too! Highly recommend them! ( Since its almost always swim suit weather here, it pays to stay in great shape.) Keep up the great work!

I'm glad this thread is still going strong. I'm in a weird place with my body, I gained a lotta muscle which just about killed my flexibility so I've gained weight but I feel more toned. Ab lines are coming back and my chest is getting more where I want it. Progress pics soon. I finally got clearance to practice in a pole acrobatics studio again. The one on island has been pretty strictly women only until now and I'm stoked. The last few sessions have been wrecking me, but it hurts in the good way. Keep it up everyone!

So I'm not really fat or anything, but I have like no muscle! I used to be a gymnast, so that is not okay with me. This is photo on day 1. Ignore my disgusting mirror and bedroom. Lol....
I'll try to post progress photos once a week.....if I don't someone should yell at me because I might have given up.... Haha.
I really want to tone my stomach and lose a bit of weight from my thighs. I hope to cosplay the nearly naked Mystique for Dragon Con in Atlanta. And I want a nicer body for my mer-self. I also want a fully swimmable Zora cosplay...but that is besides the point. xD

You and me both, Milieu! It was actually research for a zora cosplay that brought me to the mernetwork in the first place. Then I just decided to go with traditional mermaiding. But I still love Zoras.
I have begun the squat challenge! Since I'm starting day 1 on the first day of a 30 day month, it shouldn't be too hard to remember where I am. I took pictures of my backside in a mirror in tight yoga pants, if I see a drastic change at the end of this month, I'll post before/after pics. Edit: well, not actually just the squat challenge-- http://loveandcurvy.files.wordpress.com/2013/05/30-day-challenge-1.jpg

Haha! Zoras are awesome!!! :)
I might try out the thirty day challenge too since I don't really have any written workout atm....just going off memory of what we used for conditioning in gymnastics. P: I'm adding two different types of sit-ups to it as well. Since what is there will do nothing for my stomach muscles.
I could really use a nice butt for Mystique.... xD
I've also started cutting down on the amount of milk I drink. Used to drink it with every meal, but now its only for desert. Water and green tea the rest of the time. I'm curious what effect that will have, if anything noticable on my health. :)

I am about to start upping the amount of times I run each week so I can start training for some half marathons and then full marathons.
Plus I'm starting freerunning in a few hours today, which will be amazing!

Update on the 30 day challenge: The first five days were horrible! I wasn't terribly sore, but my knees decided this would be a good time to complain (I got runner's knee a few years ago, and they've never recovered fully). I'm doing much better now, and now that the muscles are getting stronger my knees hurt much less. I can feel some 'steel' beneath the 'fluff' on my legs, and there's a bit less 'fluff' than there used to be. I've started adding in more arm work (only 8 pushups on day 8?? really?).

Well, I've lost 26 pounds since Christmas so that's good. Just have to remember to keep eating now. I'm really sorry to hear that Coradion, I know it's not the best to hear but perhaps try and work on your goals in an attempt to be busy and such.
For exercise I'm planning on toning myself up and losing a bit of weight around my middle, there's a belly dancing workout place near me (although I do want to go in a troupe) and I'll probably walk and do some skating again. I'm hoping to get a new job to go back to roller derby.

I really want an extra day or two of swimming. Its the only type of exercise I like doing!
So I've been looking at nearby local swimming pools... The YMCA ones, that I've so dreaded because there's kids there, well more than the club pool I've been going to. And the public pools always have a very strong chlorine smell.
Sometime next week, I plan to go without my fin, and just swim and check it out.
It's a 5 min walk to the pool from the train station, so that's going to be extra exercise. Get the blood moving and all!

After seeing some of those before and after butts on the first pages...I am so doing the 30 day squat challenge haha.
Also, I don't know if it was mentioned on here yet (as I didn't go through all 27 pages), a very effective workout is Pole Fitness. Yes -- that's a nice word for pole dancing!
Pole studios are popping up and more frequently, and it's definitely one of the best fitness classes I've ever taken. It seriously works every bit of your body (arms and core especially). I find doing pole very rewarding. When I was at a gym, before I went I'd always have that 'meh' feeling of how I really didn't want to drive to the gym, and lift weights or get on any machines and then go home.
With pole now, I find that I can't wait for the next session! I love my instructors, the friends you make in the class, and there is absolutely no judging. You also learn to love your body since there's mirrors everywhere, and you watch yourself do these incredible moves! You don't know some of the things your amazing body is capable of :)
We've had quite large ladies in class, and they seriously owned it. The oldest lady I've seen pole was in her late 60's.
The only downside is cost (some studios' classes get pretty expensive) and I know some studios won't allow men to join the classes.
If anyone is ever looking for a new fun and rewarding workout, I can't suggest pole enough. Many studios have drops ins or an introductory class for pretty cheap for people who are possibly interested in starting it up!

I'm amazed at myself! I ran beside my niece on her bike and didn't once feel like like I was going to pass out!
We went all the way to the park which was a 15 min walk, but with me jogging and her riding her little trike.
I'm really glad even those once a week swimming times have finally paid off. Each time I go, I feel I have improved even by a tiny little bit.

I admit, I've slacked off on staying fit. That said, I have been pushing myself in the pool this month, going several times a week and steadily increasing the speed and number of laps and the duration and difficulty (without hands, while distracted, holding weights, etc) of treading water, and I am noticing the beneficial effects. I'm going to have to get back into the swing of things with regular exercise as well, though, especially if I want to build up my strength and endurance.

As for me, I finally (with a doctor's help) solved a medical mystery and while I'm still in recovery mode, it IS recovery and I'm feeling better. I think about working out every day but have not had the energy. I am finally feeling it.
I gained 15 pounds in the past couple months. SO unhappy about that, but that's what happens when you're laying around doing nothing because you're in so much pain.
So. I'm pretty sure tomorrow is my first day back at working out. I want back the body I'd achieved before the medical issue got so bad, and I want to keep going back to my goal and better. It's April, and 83 degrees here today, but I'd like by June to see myself happy in shorts or a bathing suit.
So that's my new goal. As long as my medical situation keeps improving, and I have no reason to think it won't.
This thread is so helpful! Keep up the great work everyone!

Thirty day challenge over! Not a huge change, and I didn't actually loose a single pound (actually gained 1-2 from my muscles getting stronger *shrug* who cares? not me), but I am happy with how good I feel. As promised, before and after pics: The first two are day one, and the last three are day 30. (I can't seem to get these pics any smaller, sorry.) Oh, believe me, I'm not quitting now! I feel too good working out every day to stop. I'm starting again at the second week of the thirty day challenge, and going through to the end again. And I certainly have seen some changes, but I'm too shy to put pictures of my bare bottom up on the internet.:$ (my cellulite is mostly gone). I lost 2 whole inches from around my ab area (from the back I think. Goodbye saddlebags!), and a little less than an inch from my thigh. You know, the sort of changes that cameras don't notice very well. My absolute favorite thing is I find my posture is better from all the pushups I've been doing. It used to exhaust me to stand up straight, now I notice I'm doing it naturally.

Coradion, you totes need to teach me how to pole dance. I've been running with my friend (painful) and going to the gym (slightly less painful). But I think I'm a bit smaller now. I feel skinnier. I'm ready for my tail when I get it. Also, Arion, I started doing squats and deadlifts after you posted that pic of the results it had on your butt :P Weight lifting is definitely more fun and seems to render better results than 'girl workouts' centered around just cardio.

I tried that booty and ab challenge, it was great, however I only stuck with it for like 2 weeks. I ended up hurting my hip flexor even more and could barely walk. Ended up at Physical therapy. Adding weights helps burn more calories when I work out. I do Jazzercise, which is 40 min of dance cardio and 20 min of strength training with weights. I added ankle weights for the leg exercises and 6 lb weights when doing upper body. The big thing that worked for me was cutting out alot of carbs. I try not to eat lot of bread, bagels, cereal, rice and more salad and fresh stuff. I am finally close to where I want to be, I have a couple more pounds to go :) I think I might try the booty challenge again, once my hip flexor is better :)

Hi guys :)
So I guess this is the beginning of my planning! As of this Tuesday coming I will be on a strict diet and exercise regime! Now, the reason I'm waiting until Tuesday is because it's my birthday this Sunday (And my 18th at that!!) and so, undoubtedly, there will be lots of Cake, fatty food, and maybe a little alcohol. Along with this, on the Monday my family is coming down to visit and we're having a buffet etc along with a little party :') so yeah...here's my 'story' if you will, so far.
When I was a tiny boy, I was always a skinny minney, but that all changed as I got into High school and ended up comfort eating. I got tubby...very tubby. It was such a complex paradox...I hated my school life, so I ate to feel better...I hated my body, and that made me want to eat more?? like...what. Anyway, eventually things got better, and I ended up losing a LOT of weight, but I was still rather chubby.
Moving on in life, I never cared much about my body or how it looked because I didn't have much hopes or desire to be anything that involved my body. I started hairdressing, and hated it! And ended up gaining a lot of weight again. To try and lose weight, I started doing a bit of swimming and another exercise I love...dancing.
I joined a ballet class, and a Jazz class...and boom! I lost weight again, and got the confidence to audition for a Performing Arts college to study in Dance, which I was luckily accepted into! This gave me a huge confidence boost and I was shedding the pounds so easily for so long.
Then my boyfriend cheated on me...and the comfort eating began again. But then things got weird...I stopped eating completely, fainted in Ballet class, and ended up making a huge drama of myself. I got yelled at for being stupid...so began eating again, but this time I started barfing it up...I was ill, and I knew it.
I eat okay now, but I binge a LOT especially when things are on my mind. I now weigh (please don't judge...I'll change I promise!!) 13 st exactly, which is about 182 lbs. :$ and I'm only 5'10"
So now I'm ending the eating storms and sorting myself out. I don't expect to transform magically in a month or two, in fact....my goal is to reach at least halfway to my dream goal in about two years or so. If it happens sooner...great! :) I'm willing to put in hard work to make this possible.
As a dancer, I exercise often...we have daily class, and 4 of the 5 classes start with a 30 minute exercise session which includes sit ups, planks, push ups, stretches, etc. But I don't think it's enough.
Here's me now:
21062
and my final goal is something like this:
21063
Nothing too over the top, or overly muscled...just flatten my stomach, and chest and tone up a little.
I'd like to try a 30 day challenge to start, so if anyone knows any good ones could you link/post it here for me please? :)
And what kind of diet would you guys recommend?

If you really want to commit to being more fit you should start now. Like right this minute. It's too easy to tell yourself you can put it off, or allow yourself to cheat on diets for special occasions. A big part of weight loss is often learning what it really means to go without food you really want.

Codadion you have inspired me, I've been swimming slot more and for alot longer, I've been doing leg squats and sit ups daily, cutting down on the junk food and eating more healthily. I bought a badminton set for the garden and roped my boyfriend into playing with me, I aquired a weighted hula hoop and and a skipping rope! I don't weigh myself as I have had instances of being obsessed with my weight in the past and want to get fit sensibly. But I've measured and in three weeks my waist has gone from 31" to 28"! Really pleased!
Coradion you are looking really great!!

I love this thread, I've been doing Zumba twice a week, and have recently started doing weight lifting classes and I've been adding weight each time and feel myself getting stronger. I'm loving it. :-) Although I'm sure I'd notice more of a difference in my waist if I didn't like ice cream so much. :-) I feel good just knowing that what is on me is not as much slim fat as it is slim tone now. Still a bit to go, but Storm and Coradion inspire me.

Thanks! Great job on toning up! I know how the weight thing goes, sometimes I gain like five pounds but I look better and more toned. Weight is a nice indicator but it's hard to tell what is muscle gain and what's fat, etc. I'm glad this thread is helping you! Keep it up everyone!

When I was in my early twenties the doctor told me, "You will always be tall and thin". I was 5'7 and weighed 135. At my lowest I was 115. Then I got pregnant with my eldest daughter and things went downhill from then. I was 27 when I delivered her, and 205 pounds. I had Pre-E and had to be induced. After she was born I dropped down to 178 and stuck there for the next 5 years. I had never had to lose weight before, and I could always eat whatever I wanted. Now I needed to lose weight and even if I starved myself I still couldn't do it. The doc put me on Medifast (the same doc who said I would always be thin). Within a week I was suicidal. Literately curled up in the bathtub crying hysterically. I have struggled with PTSD for a long time and luckily I recognized that there was something more going on then just being depressed for no reason. I went to the nearest restaurant, bought a huge meal and ate LOL. I was back to normal a few hours later. When I told my doctor what happened he had my glucose tested and found out I am hypoglycemic and by throwing off my sugar so bad with the medi fast diet, it screwed up the chemicals in my brain and made me momentarily insane LOL.
I got pregnant with my second baby and had a perfectly normal pregnancy and delivery. Within a month I dropped down to 145 pounds and looked better then I had in years. Unfortunately we lived in a not so nice community that (because my husband is Asian and I am white) they avoided us. They didn't like mixed race marriages. They wouldn't even let their kids play with ours. I gained back all the weight.
Then we moved! I have been more active the last two months then I have been in years. I started out at 200 pounds since the mermaid obsession began and I am now 189 pounds! I know it is going to be a slow go. I had to have a full hysterectomy because of endomitriosis and that screws up the metabolism, but I am determined to look good in a tail darnit! I will get my body back, if I have to fight tooth and nail to do it!

You can do it! I know how the weight roller coaster game goes and it can be miserable although I've never added the complications of pregnancy to it (screw people who had mixed marriages, I'm a mutt asian/Hawai'ian/White and proud of it). What kinds of workouts are you gonna try? Dieting only does so much for me, right now I train and teach acrobatic pole dance and I love it. If you want a fun way to workout I'd definitely give it a try. No pressure, but if you take your before pics now, seeing the visible changes later on can be really empowering. If you're not opposed to it, sharing them and your progress is really inspiring to those of us on this thread! I believe in you!

Awe thanks! I honestly went from a very "shut in" life doing petty much nothing, to swimming nearly every single day. I also ride my bike, and when it rains my exercise bike. I am trying to work on flexibility and plan to start doing some yoga at home. I think if I just stay active and adjust my diet I will start to shed some pounds. Especially when I finally get a fin and am able to practice. I heard it is quite a work out!
By the way, you look great! Congrats!

Make sure to do resistance training of some kind. Especially for women if you just do cardio you'll plateau as fas as weight loss goes and sometimes even start gaining a bit of weight again even if you're super active and fit
Mermaid Lily_Pad

Can you post some ideas of what kind of resistance training works best?
Coradion
06-20-2014, 11:25 PM
It all depends on you and what you like. You can do weight training, but personally I hate that. If you want to swim, you can have "drag" days. When I did that for swim team we would wear sneakers, board shorts, and XXL t-shirts. You go slow as can be but it works you hard, it was that or we had a vasa trainer which was essentially a weight system on the pool deck that you strapped around your waist or yourankles. You swim really hard until the weight pulley on deck rings a bell then you relax, let it pull you to the wall and do it again. We also swam with 5 gallon buckets on our feet. If you don't want to torture yourself you can try just using resistance bands, but I personally think it's boring. I like acrobatic pole dance a lotfor resistance training. You fight gravity the whole time, get strong fast, and you don't get bored cause you're learning tricks and not doing reps.

The pole dancing sounds like a blast, but I don't think they have any classes where I live. 5 gallon buckets? Geez...and I thought my swim coach was hard! There is a little gym in the clubhouse of our complex. Maybe I will check out the weight machines. I have trouble with my shoulder and knee. Torn trap muscle and torn miniscus, (I used to be an ice skater and competitive roller skater). Will have to try and find things that don't strain the injuries.

Where in FL are you? I have some friends who compete in acrobatic pole that are all from FL. You might just wanna try drag swim days in a shirt and shorts. Same motion, just a lotta extra work. Or if you surf or can do open water swims in a current that'll do it too. The main thing with cardio swims is that you set a tempo and only do that tempo for x amount of time. You want to be switching up your pace and muscle strain. Even biking up hills and uneven terrain will really help!

Seeing as I'm a long way from getting my tail (I'm only 19, working part time, still saving just to get my own car :P) I have plenty of time to get my body all nice and merman-ish... But the thing is, I'm so lazy :'( I was always rather skinny and yesterday I realized I was actually 20 pounds heavier than I thought (scale at Publix said I was 145....which is even funnier when you bear in mind I was at Publix just to get cake and pastries xD) So anyway, I really wanna start working out but I nver have the time. I work all day, when I get home, I sleep, and then when I have free time, I just chill and dont even go anywhere. So yeah, just adding this in here. wish me luck guys. Today starts my first day, if I do nothing more than a few push UPS in the morning then its an improvement and hopefully a start :)

Worked out today, I just got hired to be a teacher at a new acrobatics/pole studio! Apparently we're hosting a national competition in November and all instructors are expected to compete. Gotta start working a routine now, it's nice to have a goal. Here's a bad pic from today's workout, it's a hands free hold. I'm holding my hands behind my back and the pole is under my bicep. It hurts.

Challenges are great for toning and muscle building but cardio is where you can really get your fat burn and weight loss. Just ten minutes of cardio of any kind at an elevated heart rate is enough to prevent new fat storage. All it takes is ten minutes to prevent weight gain, just double that to twenty to start weight loss!

I've been going slowly in terms of exercise... I get off the bus two stops before my work one, and walking the rest of the way there.
It doesn't sound like much but at least now, I can walk up a small hill without feeling like my legs are gonna give out!

Cardio is where I am already good; I dance/rehearse almost daily and when I don't I'm doing interval training on the treadmill. :) I was going to zumba classes but I'm back to a full time job and the schedule doesn't mesh with it so looking to switch to a new gym soon.
I'm not looking for much weight loss rather toning and firming. Looking forward to getting back in the pool too.

Thanks Seaglass! My family had to move to Florida from NJ due to my husbands work relocating him. We are renting a house (which is like 3 times the size of our house in NJ and ironically costs less in rent then our mortgage LOL). That particular bathroom is going to be my parents. Since we have so much room we are going to help my mom retire so she can take care of my father (who is a severe diabetic) and we can help her out. She would never be able to retire in NJ, it's so darn expensive. They have the Master suite, that is their Master bathroom..it is HUGE! Right now we are storing some boxes in it (hence the box in the picture), it has the biggest mirrors though so I used to it take the pics, hehehe.

Currently trying to gain weight for my surgery. I'm up to 135 from 120 in two months.
i know some of it is definitely new muscle because I've been doing body pump at my gym and have definitely seen changes in my strength. Not intending to lose weight, but I realized recently that my muscles are all out of whack, and that I can no longer touch my elbows to the floor when I sit with my feet straight ahead of me (something I used to do very easily). I had a performance a while ago, and at the end, after I put away my lute, my drummer was goofing around and I was dancing and I realized that holy crap, my thighs were actually getting sore.
So I guess I'm back to finding a guru for kathak and bharatnatyam so I don't feel like a winded idiot when I dance, and kuchipudi if they're ok with a non-hindu doing it, but I'm not going to press that one. I'm not going to be that person.

I am around all of them 24/7 and I think it is beginning to wear on me. I love my family don't get me wrong...but as an introvert I need that alone time to recenter myself and decompress...if that makes sense? I am also having side affects from my hysterectomy surgery and they have me very very down. According to the scale I have not gained any weight...which I am shocked about, but I have not lost any either. This is the second day in a row I have pretty much sat on the comp all day without the will to do anything...it's So frustrating. My lower back is killing me and the doctors don't know why so that doesn't help. I have had a terrible time trying to sleep. I actually ended up taking a nap on a recliner today which I rarely ever do during the day and it took me a long time to actually wake up enough to get back up which was weird. Blah...

So just wanted to give a quick update :)
I'm extremely proud of myself, I've managed to cut back so much! I now eat a strict diet which consists of just under 2000 calories per day (as recommended by my doctor) and when I do eat, I never binge on unhealthy sugary and fatty snacks. It's mostly three meals through the day (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and then as snacks I now go for fruit only!
I've cut fizzy drinks completely, and now only drink flavored water (I don't like normal freshwater...bleugh...so the flavored is a good step for me) And on top of all this I have an exercise routine which I follow daily.
And so, in just under a month I've lost nearly 2 stone (which is about 28 pounds) and I couldn't be happier!!
I have never lost more than a couple pounds before, no matter how hard I tried so I'm happy to finally see improvement!! And now I am positive that by the end of the year I will have reached my goal of losing another 14 pounds, and being in my ideal weight so that I can then start working on toning my body :)
You wouldn't believe how shedding a few pounds can boost my confidence!! I'm wearing clothes I would never have worn in the past, and buying sizes smaller than what I usually do is a bonus as well ;)
By the end of this month I'm hoping to do a little comparison pic side by side, it won't be too much of a difference but I'm hoping you'll be able to see the improvement at least!! :)

The trick to this kind of setback is to switch your mindset from all the reasons why you can't. "I can't" statements are the enemy of progress. Whenever you hear them in your head replace with with "I will try" do any little thing you can, you'll feel way better for it. Just ten minutes of elevated heart rate cardio will drop prevent new fat build up and you at least will not gain weight. As soon as you start your workout you will feel better for it. Just set an alarm, put a workout rubberband on your wrist and don't take it off until you finish your workout!

Current body goal: Maintain a reasonable amount of fitness throughout my pregnancy. I'm also going to be practicing breathholds, though nothing over a minute to be safe. It's tough, I'm very tired all the time, though I have heard that should ease up when I hit the second trimester.

Aziara, be careful with the breath holds while pregnant. I was breath holding by accident when I was pregnant and when I told my doctor he told me to try very hard not to. That when you deprave yourself of oxygen you are also depraving your baby and it could be dangerous. Remember, you are the babies life line. Any stress you put on yourself you also put on the baby. Be careful.

Coradion, it's ironic as a coach I would tell my students all the time "there is no such thing as I can't, only "I will try harder". I feel a bit better today, physically...and I slept better last night which is helping the depression and body aches. I wish they could figure out what is wrong with me so I can try and fix it. I will try harder though! The rubber band is a really good idea.

Yeah, which is why I'm not going to do anything over a minute. A minute isn't difficult for me, I'm not even out of breath at the end. And since that's the last hold of my practice, the majority are only 30-40 seconds, with a minute between to reoxygenate. I've done a bit of research on it, and so long as the breath hold doesn't make you dizzy or lightheaded, you're not deprived of oxygen yet. I understand you're just concerned, so thanks anyhow. But how do you breath hold by accident???

A minute is fine for you but your baby isn't used to oxygen deprivation. I accidentally hold my breath when I'm doing something where I have to focus. I think they mean that. I would talk to a doctor before you do minute long breath holds. Your baby hasn't been training.

Ok, just so you know I'm not doing this without research. These opinions are both from MDs. http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Pregnancy/holding-my-breath/show/655987 https://www.healthtap.com/topics/is-it-bad-to-hold-your-breath-when-pregnant No offense, but why the heck is everyone suddenly an expert when you get pregnant? "Eat this, not that. Do this, not that" I'm drowning in advice :anger explode: Take it easy, y'all. I do tons of research before I do ANYTHING. This is my first, and I don't want him to be screwed up.

It's really easy :P I'm a trained swimmer and sometimes when I'm doing something that reminds me of swimming or I space out I start to feel weird. Usually it's cause I forgot to keep breathing :P

First off congratulations on your baby! (Do you think he'll be a land child or you think we got a new merman about to join the fold?) I'd just smile and do what you've been doing, clearly you care about your baby and consider their well being which is more than a lot of people do. There's always new research out there to pull from and I think most of the time everyone is eager to share cause babies are so exciting and everyone wants the best for all the newcomers to this world :) . You know your body best and from all my aunties and friends with babies said they just say stuff to the effect of "go with your gut, and when in doubt just shower your baby with some extra love."
What kind of workout plans were you thinking during pregnancy? I've had some friends who were pregnant during their first trimester that said their babies sucked all their energy and creativity up, all their kinds ended up being artistic fire crackers. Maybe you have a future olympian on your hands?

A trick I learned for people who are scatter brained "like me" to remind myself to do something is to intentionally place an ordinary object in a weird place. Like leave your car keys on the floor or something, it reminds me when I see them that I have to workout. Don't just wait for your doctors, take what power you've got and use it! You can do it, you've been a coach. What is the honest advice you'd give yourself? If you absolutely can't do anything then oh well, but if you can make a small gain even if it's uncomfortable to reach your goal you owe it to yourself to do it! Those little uncomfortable places are the tiny battles where we make real progress. Like just ten minutes every day of some kind of elevated heart rate cardio will do the trick. We all have an extra ten minutes, you just have to start right away and get your "CAN do, will try" attitude powered up.

Sorry I got a little combative before, it was simply the latest in a long line of advice, and it was wearing on me more than it should have. I surely hope my little guy is a water baby, though my husband is very tied up with gender roles (boys gotta be pirates); if the little guy asks me for a tail, he's getting one for sure! I keep saying he, as that's my suspicion, though there's no sure way of knowing yet; I'm only 6 weeks in at the moment. I'm mostly trying to do the same workouts from before (squats, pushups against the wall instead of on the floor, moving planks) though I can't seem to keep going for more than 10 minutes before my heart rate starts to spike and I have to start cooling down. I've actually put on some inches in the legs and butt, which is what prompted me to make the resolution to keep up with fitness. (I outgrew the legs of my brand new maternity pants and I don't even have the belly to fill it out yet )

My lazy day workout goes like this:
200 yard under/over. Underwater swim down, freestyle back.
400 yard easy freestyle to warm up.
10 x 100yd descending interval free I usually start at 1:30 min intervals when I'm being lazy and drop five seconds from the rest every 2 to hit 1:10ish.
8 x 75yd swim a kick a length, drill a length, swim a length of whatever stroke you feel like on the 1:15.
5x200 negative split on whatever interval you like as long as you get faster each 50.
Cool down with an easy 500.

I'm slowly stating to get back into exercising. I feel like I've been sick forever and only now have any energy to do things. So for now my goal is to build up my endurance and muscle strength.
Most of my routine is usually sit-ups, push-ups, squats, lots of leg work and some arm work. Though I'm trying not to push my body too hard and gradually build things up.
I kind of feel like this gradual workout has paid off; when I went to the pool today I got in a good hour of swimming. Man it felt good to be back in the water. Just gotta plan better, too many noisy kids who have rude and unsafe water manners.

You don't know how tempting that is.
I don't think it would go over that well with the lifeguards or their parents, though.
But I would have thought the lifeguard would have given them a warning for jumping into the water over/almost on top of people. *shrug*
I did go to the pool when the outdoor wave pool was closed due to weather, so the indoor one was crowded. But $1 swim day, who could resist?

So... I've been in this program for those with eating disorders.... I'm right now trying to understand when I'm really hungry v. wanting to eat for various psychological anxieties.
The weird thing is: I've been at the same weight for almost half a year at this point... so it's proven that I know how to maintain weight. So I guess it's all a matter of trying to get my body to work with me to lose weight.

I know how it goes. I struggled with my weight for years. I think what helped me most was finding a team or group of workout people outside of my friend circle. That made a huge difference for me. It's easy to flake in workouts with a friend. Finding a class or group where the relationship is based around fitness makes it loads easier.

For everyone , make sure your fitness goals are based on you and your journey. Comparing yourself to others is an exercise in frustration. If your body is getting better and your fitness is improving that's what counts. We're all at different levels and should appreciate each others personal successes and struggles.

Ok, so I'm not gonna lie I am kinda embarrassed to post this. Since I have been a little girl I have been extremely self conscious of my body ( I even used to wear shorts anytime I went swimming anywhere). So, this is a little hard for me to do. I know I am not over weight or a big person but I have been picked on by people closest to me so that's what is making this so hard (I have been called thunder thighs and that's amongst other names) . But, anyways....
My Goal:
My goal is to be 115 and tone again like how I used to be when I was in the military. Last Feb. I had to have knee surgery, so I had to stop working out which began the beginning of my laziness (I guess you can say). I mostly stopped working out because it still bothers my knee because it wasn't fixed properly come to find out; so I still have problems with it. Which also sucks because I was into kick boxing, but I can't do it anymore until I have surgery again (and I am trying so hard to hold off on that) I got of the military 6 months ago and so I started eating way more unhealthy (which didn't help my cause). What made come to realize and just open my eyes to how much I gained, was when I went to the doctor about 2 months ago for my knee and I weighed 152 pounds ( the heaviest I have ever been). I wanted so bad to cry after I seen that.
So, how I have been trying to accomplish my goal is.....
1. I run every other day 2 miles which I can still do so that makes me feel better.
I am doing cardio to start burning my body fat that I don't want.
2. I am doing light strength training
I am doing light because since I am trying to be smaller and 115 again I want to burn fat faster than I gain muscle, because for some people if you start to gain muscle
under the fat and it will give that appearance that you are bigger than what you are. I also can gain pretty big muscle, and fast; so I am trying to keep the lean look more.
3. I am eating way more healthier (all natural stuff mostly and caffeine free)
I drink tons of water and hardly have any sodas (if I do it's mostly once a week)
I drink all natural green tea (it has natural chemicals the body needs to help boast your metabolism) and it helps with the cravings to drink other crappy drinks that are
bad for you
4. I eat constantly, 3 meals and snacks in between, (should equal up to 6) my snacks mostly entail a banana with a little bit of all natural peanut butter on it.
I haven't weighed myself since then, and honestly I don't know if I am loosing my weight or not, because to me I cant see it. I kinda just see whats wrong I guess every time I look in the mirror. I have pictures of when I was 152 lbs but I am afraid to look at them, because of the fear I have that I haven't changed. But, I do know that I just seen that squat challenge that the french merman posted and I am ready to tackle that too. Oh, I forgot I did try Insanity.... I only did up to the rest week; which I think thats a month. I kinda up just not wanting to do that after while, because it was the same thing over and over again so it got boring. So this is my goal and how I am trying to accomplish them. Tell me what you think.

We all start in different places, if it helps you take your measurements like hips, waist, thighs, etc and record them in a journal. Don't check every day, but maybe every week remeasure yourself and take a picture. That way you can put together a journal of your real progress and see the numbers and proof of your work. What matters is that you're making the effort and doing something to change yourself. If you do ten minutes of cardio every day you prevent new fat build up barring excessive over eating. If you do just that each day you'll know the changes you see are most likely toning and muscle and not weight gain. It might help if you want to put your mind at ease about it.

I'm glad I can be of help! I wanted to make this thread for the people who are trying to make changes. Too many people focus on why they can't do something and let it cripple any progress they might've had. I want to see people who can and will do and try. It forms such a healthier sense of community and it honestly helps motivate me more to see everyone else's journeys. I have struggled with my body and my self image for years and I know what it's like to be feeling down about yourself. I'm still there sometimes. When I read about other people sharing their successes it reminds me of what mine feel like so that I can push through my own rough patches and plateaus :)

I haven't been able to get much practice in, so my swim time seems to last a little over an hour before I tire out.
But the practicing I have been doing has made swimming easier. I'm now able to go about 3/4 of the pool length on a single breath. I don't remember how long the pool is though.
Had a bit of a scare after one of my laps. Felt fine underwater and resurfaced only to have trouble breathing in for a couple of seconds, light my throat closed up when inhaling. Made me glad I was at the edge of the shallow end so it wasn't as panic inducing. Didn't have any other troubles for the rest of the swim, but I also played it a bit more careful after that.

I'm not perfect, but when I see the lump of fat around my waist that makes it difficult to fit into my tail and spills over the top of my tail, I figured I needed to do something.
I was measured for my tail when I was anorexic and about 119 lbs (BAAAAD IDEA). So when I started eating again-even if it was only a little bit of food, everything stuck to me, and I bloated to somewhere in the 130 range. When my manager stopped getting me gigs and didn't tell me why, I figured there was a reason behind it that he wasn't telling me. So here I am, determined to lose the weight, the fat around my midsection, and get all of my muscles back that I used to have. I was muscular and 118 lbs two years ago, I can do it again.
And I left that company, btw. I manage myself now, and I'm going to be one awesome mermaid who is going to get gigs on her own!

*sheepish hello* It's no secret to those who know me I'm not a "little" mermaid. Although I am proud of who I am I'd like my pre-preganancy figure back, the body my husband fell in love with. At the start of my mermaid journey I was almost 280lbs at only 5'1, now (3months later) with a few eating changes along with tail practice twice a week I've managed to 256lbs. Nowhere near the 170lbs I was before the birth of my beautiful baby boy. So I'm hoping with this I can really buckle down and drop the weight over the cooler months so come next summer this mermaid will make a splash!

You can do it! :yay: Kudos on your progress, Kaguria.
In my two-leg form, I love me some pole dancing. But after 2.5 years at it, I'm still struggling to push past feeling so amateurish. In my videos, it looks hard because it is hard for me, not because I'm rocking the most challenging moves. My core strength is, and always has been, nonexistent. I'm hoping that all the swimming will help wake up some of those muscles. Yesterday I did a couple handstands in 5 foot water to see how long I could hold my fluke out of the water. I am feeling the burn today.

I have the next few months to get toned up, and lose body fat. As far as size goes and the numbers on the scale, I don't really care. What I do care about is the shape of my body, and my flexibility, which sucks. I started taking dance classes, and I've lost some of the extra fat around my face, and am getting closer to doing the splits, but I still have a long way to go.

Been working around 70+ hours a week, and gained a little of the weight that I had previously lost back due to this. Still, it was only a little bit, and I've managed to pretty much maintain my weight. I'm not climbing as often, but I am climbing much stronger now, and getting back into swimming. I'm also training for an obstacle course 5k run in November (it's a ROC race), and I'm really excited about that. My body is under too much stress as it is with work, but once I'm down to 1 job instead of 2, I'll probably start counting calories again and training more seriously. Right now I can barely manage yoga and climbing once a week. Fortunately, my diet is rock-solid after years of learning what my body needs.

Hi everyone! Having an a-typical issue here. I'm 6'0" and 125 lbs, and I'm having trouble eating. I was 135, but recently food just doesn't sound good. I don't and didn't have any desire to lose weight, but one day it just became really difficult to eat- everything felt like it stuck in my mouth, when I eat I get super bloated and uncomfortable, and food makes me feel sluggish and tired. I've been struggling to eat one meal a day, and it's not good.
I'm on an oral medication for MS that makes my stomach very sensitive, but I'm trying to figure out what the triggers are... seems like only smoothies and salads don't bother me. Going to try to cut out gluten and dairy since those seem to be triggers for others and see how that goes. This girl is ALL bones right now and it's NOT pretty.

Oh I hope you feel better. Gluten was my problem, and the bloating and fatigue were key signs for me. Hopefully that helps. If it does, then switching to a gluten-free diet can seem intimidating at first, but ends up not being such a big deal once you know a few foods to substitute.

Thanks :) I did go to a nutritionist and they said I should't have to worry about gluten unless I have celiac, but every time I eat bread I feel gross. :P

Most nutritionists and doctors - even many specialists - are seriously uninformed about gluten. Celiac is just one extreme on a continuum of gluten sensitivities, and gluten intolerance can lead to other diseases, as well. I do not have celiac. However, I had some genetic testing done, and I do carry a gene for gluten intolerance. Before I knew this, I became seriously ill with gluten poisoning. I was losing 1-2 pounds a week for no reason, my hair was falling out, and I ended up with collagenous colitis. My online research led me to the gluten intolerance conclusion. Within months of giving up gluten entirely, I stopped losing weight, my hair grew back, and my colitis went into remission. And then I found a good gastroenterologist who knew about the gluten-colitis connection and has supported me with excellent care and advice ever since. I continue to avoid gluten as scrupulously as any celiac would!

What Galene said. If you have an intolerance to gluten, it's an insidious thing. Also, doctors will tell you there's nothing wrong and it's all in your head. But if you cut out gluten and your symptoms improve or disappear, then there's something really there, celiac or intolerance.
PhaylennMurúch
10-17-2014, 09:20 PM
Celiac can also chill out, dormant, in your body until a stresser kicks into overdrive. I was perfectly fine with gluten until I had to shove out a 9 pound baby with a massive head. I did the blood test and tested positive for Celiac, been gluten free (mostly, gluten is a sneaky beast) for a few years now. In the past year I also developed an intolerance to corn and all it's many byproducts, I have to make my own toothpaste now because the Xyletol makes me loagy and bloated

You will detox and feel like crap for a little bit. After about 2 weeks, you will notice some symptoms will just disappear, and you'll be like, "so THIS is what it feels like to feel 'well!'" It actually can take a couple of years to heal completely, depending on how long you went untreated. I had symptoms for over 12 years before figuring it out, and 3 years later I think I can say I'm fully recovered. But you should start feeling noticeably better really soon.

Took a riding lesson at a new barn yesterday, a barn that primarily breeds sporthorses for the hunter/jumper ring (AKA, a place that sells five figure horses), and oh my gawd, my jumps looked TERRIBLE. All we did were three tiny crossrails because my thighs have lost ALL their muscle and I couldn't grip well enough to keep my leg from swinging behind me.
It was doubly embarrassing because my equitation is good enough that I was able to "hide" my lack of core and leg muscles on the flat, but the reality shined bright when I tried to go over a fence on a horse with a really round jump. It really was embarrassing. I mean, the trainer knew I haven't ridden since summer and that I am a Netflix Olympian, but still... To look so pretty on the flat then fall forward like a kiddie doing their first crossrail because of my lack of muscle made me turn red. I will be doing LOTS of posting the trot without stirrups (trainer's orders and also hell on earth) until my legs can hold my body in place over jumps, but I only have time to ride once a week right now and so I am making a commitment to spend at least forty minutes a day doing thigh ball squeezes, sitting against the wall with legs at 90 degrees, and core exercises. No more crossrail blunders for me!

Ugh that's the worst when it's something you know you can do but can't cause of lack of muscle. I was a comp swimmer for 13 years and am more fit now than I was back then but I've developed different muscle groups, when I get in the pool it's a struggle.

I shudder to think of what I would look like next time I ever get to ride, as it's probably been something like 15 years. I bet even the horse would laugh at me. But I know what you're going through. I took a ballet class for the first time in 3 years (there is NO appropriate ballet in my area, I had to go back to Boston), and while my technique is still so good, and I was in shape thanks to climbing, my jumps were sad. I used to fly, and I felt like I could barely get my butt 3" off the ground.
I just did a HIIT yoga workout yesterday, and I'm feeling saddle sore from it. All the temple pose squat jumps! It hurts to sit! If you want, I'll share the link, it will definitely get your inner thighs, core, butt, calf muscles, everything.

I think I need to get rid of my bathroom scales. They are so misleading! We're approaching the full of summer now and it is scorchingly hot, so I've lost a lot of weight from sweat alone. I'm keeping my fluids up, but I've noticed I've dropped to 50kg, which was my goal from a few years back, but I don't look any different. I certainly haven't been doing any exercise, so perhaps it's muscle loss? I quit my job a month or so ago so I haven't even had the bending/lifting that I'd usually get. My goal is to lose inches, not so much care what I weigh as long as I can get my body how I want it. Don't really have a good scale but last I checked my weight was in the 160's.
the smallest point of my waist is 33 inches, lower waist above the hips is 35 inches, and widest point of my hips is 42 inches. I really just want my stomach to be flatter and lose a few inches near the 'pooch'. I know when loosing weight it loses a littler everywhere but my goal is for my lower tummy to loose inches and be flatter. I believe muscles weighs more than fat so when it comes to weight I am not really all that concerned.
So far I have unfortunately gone through a lot of 'one month' challenges and getting discouraged or miserable for whatever reason and not going through with it (I know...shame on me >.< ) but for the last few months I have joined a gym with a pool (that they clean with salt water and saline so no chlorine!) I have managed to go at least once a week so far but not really on a consistent day or amount of time. So I have decided to start a schedule for myself.
For this month I will go to the gym and swim for at least 20 minutes, every Wednesday and Friday. I know it is not much, but I do not want to start too high and then burn myself out for it. after this month I will up the visits to three times a week and after that up the time to 30 min. I also plan to change my diet, starting today: no bread, pasta, soda, sugar, and dairy. (I will allow myself a cheat day on sundays, to help me adjust.)
That is my plan so far. I swim using the dolphin kick but for about 4 laps I do the freestyle stroke to give my arms some workout too.
I am going to do my best to stick with it and eventually see some results as I adjust my eating and workout along the way ^^
Vrindavana Starfish
12-10-2014, 04:06 PM
That is awesome. Good plan Lunette! And no "shame on you" for getting discouraged with those one month challenges. The ONLY times those things are any good is when they're already aligned with your long-term goals, and those goals aren't just to be thinner. For example, if you did one that was swimming-focused, and incorporated things you already love to do, then you might be able to stick with it. But hating the challenges only means you can't keep it up, and in order for it to really work, you'd have to be able to continue with it long after 30 days. Those things are meant as springboards into a whole new lifestyle, and if you don't like living that way and can't see yourself adopting it, then forget it.
My big goal now is to be much, much more active that I was over the summer. Back to my real athletic lifestyle that I had before. I'm also addressing some eating issues, and the intuitive eating thing is helping me with that. It's hard though. No more snacking on delicious snacks just because they're tasty! I've made a promise to myself to not check the scale for a month, and just focus on being active and eating well. At some point, I may go back to counting calories, but not yet.

Hey, one pants size is nothing to scoff at! Don't lose heart - these things often don't happen evenly. ^^ This. The important thing is that you're being healthier. The rest will follow. Keep it up!

^ agreed with both of the above. Focus on healthy, not skinny! <3
Speaking of which, I scared myself looking in the mirror today. I'm still having trouble eating, and I've been eating less than a meal a day... plenty of bones showing. :( I've been trying to force myself to eat but everything I eat still makes me feel sick. Not enough water? Screwed up taste buds? Not sure. But I need to put on weight pretty bad and figure out why my body doesn't like food. :(

Ooh Maressa, what's going on? Food allergies? That sounds horrible. I hope you can get it figured out.

Personally I'm content with the way my body looks but not with how it feels. Am I the only one who get out of breath going up a flight of stairs? I am so physically unfit, which is what I'm aiming to change. If I gain a little muscle in the process I won't oppose to it, I'm just focused right now on making sure my fitness matches my body.

Look into a food allergy or blood sugar levels or celiac or something like that. Before I was diagnosed with celiac, I NEVER ever wanted to eat because food made me sick. Could be many different things but if you don't feel a desire to eat much then something's not right. ):

Almost diabetic high... but I was also on a steroid drip, soooo... I've had a lot of tests done and so far no answers. I have MS, and I'm on a pretty intense oral medication.

I'm horribly out of shape too. I have trouble eating, which translates into not enough energy to exercise... so I'm a couch potato who weight 125 lbs. :P Get dat fitness, girl! <3

My university is super cool and gives us a gym membership when we pay of student fees so I have access to the gym and all the pools (there 4 of them!). Unfortunately our meal hall SUCKS. So much deep fried stuff, and being on an island that can't really grow much of it's own produce, everything has to be shipped in and isn't very good/ goes bad (we found a moldy lemon the other day in meal hall). I'm finding it really hard to eat well and eat at all sometimes because there isn't much to chose from.

Aww that's hard. Do you have a dorm kitchen or something? I bailed on the meal hall in my 2nd year and lived off of frozen veggies and anything I could cook in 2 pots and a frying pan. I also had a hot plate–which was illegal in my dorm but I used it anyway. A couple of friends got together with me and we would do dinner nights a couple times a week, rotating who got to cook, and car-pooled to the grocery store.

Okay first time posting in this thread. I am hitting a wall big time and thought I might be able to learn some from all of you. I have been scowering fitness forums but not having much luck...
So before I get into my fitness blurb I gotta post a discretion that I have health issues that DIRECTLY affect my fitness:
Dyspraxia- a disorder that makes for terrible motor and fine motor capabilities and causes people to have lower than normal body tone.
Endometriosis and Interstitial Cystitis- affect my abdomen area and have given me a lot of scar tissue and make that whole area very "tight" in terms of movement (not flexible or moving the way it should). Also constantly attacks my immune system so I am always either sick, tired, or both. Also, too many crunches or ab specific movements cause illness to flare up.
Okay with that out of the way...
I am a fairly active person. I swim 3-5 times a week in or out of a mermaid tail. I go to the gym for an hour every second day where I spend half my time on cardio and half my time on machines and weights. I do yoga 1-2 times a week (though I haven't been able to do it this past month due to a dislocated toe I am waiting to have reset) and I walk 30 min-60 min every single day. I eat really healthy for the most part. I have a sweet tooth but I do calorie count and balance things because my illness relies on it. Lots of veggies and lean meats.
I have been able to meet all of my main fitness goals in the past year except one. I was trying to tone arms, back, and underarms, and I think I really achieved that. I probably don't look toned to all of you, but if I had before and after photos (something I didnt think of) you'd really notice it. I'm proud of that especially my underarms I'd get that saggy fat thing going on.
I lost weight and got down to me goal of 130. I was almost 150 just over a year ago due to medication that makes people gain on average 30lbs. As soon as I stopped it the weight started pouring off.
I have been drinking a probiotic tea that has helped a lot with water retention and bloating I experience from med side effect.
The big thing I can't get past is my tummy. I have the kangaroo pouch going on that so many women do. But instead of getting better with all this hard work, I think it's gotten worse. On the bloat end of things thanks to that tea and propbiotics I def notice the bloat go down. But it's just JELLO. I can NOT get it to tone. I try to do crunched but find traditional crunches and traditional variations REALLY flare up my illnesses. So I use ab machines, try to increase cardio, and do more indirect core training plus I started yoga this year.
I am getting the muffin top at mermaid gigs. The bulge at the waist in my favourite pants. A pouch when I wear a dress. I'm not liking it. I work so hard I'm not sure what else I can do to change it up in order to tone my stomach.
I don't need it to be flat and perfect. It NEVER will be. I also have scoliosis so I will forever have a bit of a bump because my spine is indented that way so it pushes everything out. Hard to explain but even sucking it in and being super flat you can see how my back pushes forward.
Does anyone have any tricks for toning abs? I don't expect to get ripped. and I don't think it's necessarily a weight issues either. I think it's a problem area for most women but for me I think it's extra because of the dyspraxia. I usually find I can work every bit as hard as someone else but I'll only get 1/4 of the result. And that's okay with me. I have come to accept that. I had a really good personal trainer who was able to push me while also respecting certain limits. (can't afford one at the moment). But for whatever reason I am seeing results everywhere else except here. And I think as I lose inches off the waist and tone alone the sides it's making the pouch/bump REALLY apparent.
Thoughts?

Row boat exercises, is the only thing I can think of to flatten tummy.
Menopause has given me a fat tummy which some people think I'm pregnant...

Does it bother you that much to have a muffin top? It sounds like you tried everything except popping "health pills" but nobody wants to resort to that as opposed to exercise.
There is always surgery...

The only way to get rid of that is to lose weight everywhere. You have to lose a lot of subcutaneous body fat to get rid of that pouch. No amount of sit ups or rows or anything like that is going to whittle that down, meaning you'll be hard as iron underneath, but you'll still have that little pouch of fat. It's a fact of life that most women face. So if you got your BMI down, down below where it's practically dangerous, then you might see a flat tummy.

It's not so much the little pouch of fat I may not be clear enough in the issue. I was living a far unhealthier life style before but was still able to tone it. I wasn't skinny, but I had muscle and my core was strong, and the pouch wasn't that obvious unless I was having a bad stomach day. Now I look pregnant on some days despite living healthier than I ever have, and I am being asked if I am pregnant. And it also wont fit the measurements I had my tail made in for my waist/tummy. I'm saying the muscle underneath is gone. it's not fat. It's still muscle. But it's all soft now with no definition. It's calledhypotonia. (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003298.htm)
Basically
If I don't work my butt off my whole life to always work my muscles, I will lose them for good and be all rag doll like. I've gotten really close before when I was bed ridden and sick for a year. it was super hard to come back from. Doctors can't say or do much it is what it is but I'll be damned if this is it for my core. I'm not ready to just accept it and be jiggly all over and when I say that I'm not talking fat. I'm talking damaged muscle. I feel like I am on the down slope for that with my core right now and I want to try other techniques to engage the muscles if people have suggestions.

Oh, better to have a chat with your doctor then. He/she will be able to advise you better on how to regain the muscle tone. I had thought you were talking about body fat.

You can't really spot tone, if you develop the muscle under the fat layer it just pushes the fat. Row boats are good cause it's resistance cardio, the main results you see are from overall weight loss and toning everything not just one spot.
If you really wanna drop the weight and are a normal person (some people never work out and make me mad with their abs) you should do a mix of cardio and lifting or another resistance. If you do cardio sets do interval training for faster results.

Coradion, you're terrible! :p You can do those amazing moves and you feel bloaty? LOL!
BTW: Your feet are just gorgeous in that photo, I love how you point your toes!
I am having problems putting together an exercise routine for myself. I know what goals I'm aiming for, but I get lost on what exercises I should be doing, amount of reps, etc. I wish I could just pay someone to tell me what to do!
