I think what's happening here, is that we have people who either A) want to wash their hands of the poor, or B) think they are the messengers of Christ's will to implement laws that force people to live according to their interpretation of that will.

Contraception and proper education on how to use it is the pro-birth movement's FRIEND. No implantation, no pregnancy, no abortion. It's how the post-industrialized world's reproductive rates sit around replacement levels - Japan isn't even AT that - and why undeveloped nations are responsible for most of the world's population boom.
