Well met, mermaid sisters!

I'm Cara - still figuring out my mermaid name, let me know if you have suggestions!- ... and I'm new here (duh). This site and the people on it are wonderful, it feels like I'm swimming around in a giant ocean of information. *grins*
As I'm currently juggling costume and class costs for my upcoming bellydance performance, my first tail will be one from Kristen's lovely store Magictails. Two actually, in the colours Marina and Sirene. I'm not sure if there's some sort of unspoken hierarchy for types of tails- I'm sure there is, actually- ...but due to aforementioned existing cost commitments, I'll be swimming with my two beautiful fabric tails for now. Within the next year or so, though, I definitely hope to have my own full silicone tail!

It'll be great to be cyber-swimmin' with you lovely ladies.

Don't feel bad about getting into fabric first. It's recommended to try tail swimming in a fabric tail first anyway, and the fabric tails can be gorgeous.

Hi Cara,

You will do fine with a fabric tail! I swam in them 40 years ago at Weeki Wachee Springs, FL, and they still perform in them. I still like and swim in fabric tails myself! Until you are proficient in swimming in a tail, fabric is safer. You can get out of them lots faster than a silicone tail! There are so many fabrics out there, and they can be painted if you so desire!

I'm sure you will enjoy being here! Feel free to ask questions, there are so many experienced crafts'Mers here that someone will be able to answer your questions!

Yeah, I have to agree, I felt the same way Marlin did about being a merman and the "mermaid sisters" and "lovely ladies" thing. Still, welcome to the Mernetwork, Cara... I also enjoy bellydancing (though my gym only offers classes at an ungodly early hour on saturday mornings) and it's cool to hear about more people who are into it.
