I've been following this girl for a year and a half, maybe more, and she's finally DONE IT!

The 'sirena' design has a link to a YouTube video. It moves in the water much like polycarbonate does, with a nice flow that still seems to give good propulsion.

Dottie, it couldn't hurt to ask. I was talking to Mernation about using my Oceanika instead of their custom fin for a back-up fabric tail (because I'm sure my Fishbutts still won't be here for Pirate Fest) and they said they'd make a new pattern and everything as long as I ship my fin to them. So maybe they'll make your tail with the Victoria fin :D Your tail would look so beautiful with that fin! I'd be jealous ;]

I was going to invest in one of the Oceanika monofins for a first timers fin...but I decided on the Sirena instead. I love these fins because they do remind me of the Pirate's mermaid's fins, but most importantly, they have the aesthetic that no other fin that I've found has; that gorgeous nearly split fluke! Talking with Victoria has been very pleasant so far, I hope to have on by the start of/mid September!

I've swam with her several times this year, and I gotta say I love her fins! Her and Jennifer (another mermaid in Tacoma I've swam with several times) both use her Sirena fin. They're pretty darn impressive! I haven't swam in one because the first time we got to swim together I had JUST gotten my Merbella tail so I was pretty one minded haha :P I've held the fins, and they're really light weight and of great quality, and from seeing her and Jen swim they have great propulsion in the water. (I actually took some footage of her to use as product video, and I had to tell her to slow down!) They have a bit of flop to them, which I know most people like :) Also on 2 occasions I was swimming with her and Jen both of them weren't wearing any neoprene socks and didn't have any issue with their feet hurting after 3 hours in the pool, and the same when I swam with Jen and another mer for 3 hours. So they seem pretty awesome from what I've seen! I'm tempted to get one but I'm just so broke after my Merbella Studios tail :P

Okay! So I just got back from my first swim in the Sirena! (and in a monofin in general!)

So first off I want to say that this is my first monofin. So I'm not used to swimming in one boot instead of two, despite my efforts to familiarize myself with the feeling/challenges prior to receiving my fin. It goes without saying that the fin is awkward due to it's shape. You have to work a little harder to cut through the water to adjust yourself, taking special care not to snag one side of the fluke on the floor of where you're swimming and make your fluke do the splits! I imagine this is a standard procedure with most silicone fins already, and it doesn't affect the overall performance imho. Also? It's big. Big enough to look proportional to your body, instead of having an itty bitty fluke and a long long tail/leg of legs. It's aesthetically pleasing, at least to me.

Getting this out of the way; the Sirena fin is floppy. As floppy as you could possibly imagine, and the propulsion doesn't show it. I expected just something attached to my feet with standard fin propulsion, but this monofin gets me across the pool faster than my snorkel fins. The construction is very basic, and I am not sure what materials she uses, but they stood up to the first swim awesomely.
The only con that I saw in the fin was the neoprene slipcover made to cover the join between the boot and the physical fin. While this is not an actual con and more like a small detail I can learn to live with; the neoprene slip collects water and balloons. It's noticable getting in and out of the water, affecting your buoyancy and resistance with the tail. There is some drainage, but I'll probably have to modify it a little to get it streamlined. Otherwise, taking a moment while initially getting in the water to get all the air out of it is something you should do before swimming. There is an opening by the feet that allows water to escape, but it does affect the image making your fin stick straight up while you're trying to get the water out of it. Like I said, a more minor detail than a defect!
The Sirena completely blew my expectations and I didn't want to get out of the water with it! I can't wait to start putting together an ensemble with it, and hope to get it into some neoprene soon. Until then...I'm sewing a skin right now!

I can see no reason why the Custom Monofins wouldn't work inside of a silicone tail. I'd treat it just as if it were any type of monofin; it serves the same purpose. But please know that I have no experience in working with silicone, so personally I have never tried it. Raven-Victoria (MerBellas) was interested in purchasing a Custom Monofin, so it's my guess that they should work.
