So, in 5 months my family and I plan to take a trip to the Bahamas! I'm so super excited and I figured it would be the perfect oppertunity to take photos and videos in a tail. There's just one problem, my spandex tail is killing my feet. Thus! I decided it was time to save up some money and complete a decent hand-painted neoprene tail with a custom cut competitor monofin, or other depending on what I decide.

I know everyone seems to be doing POTC4 tails, but I'm going to be doing one as well. I might change mine up and make it blue, but that is still yet to be decided ;). Anywho, here is the design I'm going to use and the shape I plan on cutting the fin in if I go with a competitor.

There is going to be a zipper installed in the side of the fluke so that I can easily access it. I hope to be able to make the scales, which will either be left scattered as in the sketch or covering the tail, 3D. I plan on having the fins, dorsal, ankle and pectoral, partially transparent towards the tips and blended into the tail. The top will be painted nude to match my skin tone for the whole "fin attatched to my body" illusion. Accessories will be made to match the tail, if time and money provide me with the chance. Oh! And a travel bag to so I can transport it :).

One more thing, I found this airbrushing stencil set on ebay and I am considering using it to paint scales in my tail :)

Okay, that's all for now! Let me know what you mers think! I hope that time and money will provide me to do this, I'd really love to have this tail for my trip!

Hope you have big feet. :( I've been looking for the size small competitor and couldn't find it anywhere--I know Iona's MerBella tail has a medium I think because Raven couldn't find a small anywhere either.

A medium would fit me better anyway. I wish you luck in finding a small competitor, I didn't realise it was that tough :(

And thank you everymer :D

Hmm, I just checked and SwimOutlet actually has medium listed as fitting 6.5 - 8 women's US, which is unusual as I thought the medium was 10-12 women's? Sizing is annoying sometimes, blah! But it looks like the medium actually would fit me. Neat. :P

I have a size Large Competitor, and I wear a 9.5-10 in women's... I'll say it's a bit snug, even though it's supposed to fit to size 11!

It's been to my experience they don't sell "small" competitors. They start at medium (which is a size women's 7.5-9) and go up to XXL (which is like, a size 14+ or something in women's sizes). I have a size 7 foot, so I have to wear the medium with my neoprene sock-bootie things.
