Sharknado

[Carolina Mermaid]

As some of you know SyFy has come up with a movie called; Sharknado.
The story takes place in LA and a hurricane causes hundreds of sharks to swim through the flooded streets and attack and eat people. Also tornadoes catch the sharks in its vortex and launches them onto buildings and on top of people.
I was wondering if anyone else had seen this movie and wanted to discuss their point of view and the odds of this ever happening (some fans think it might).

:D Some friends and I like to watch hilariously bad movies together and make fun of them/hang out and just have a good time. The best one yet has been Sharktopus. Most of them have graduated, sadly, but one is coming back next year and he and I are going to do a double feature of Sharktopus and this! :D It's esspecially exciting because he's my sharkbuddy, he taught a small class on them that I took and we both love sharks a lot. I'm sure we will yell a lot at the tv when they get things wrong, but that also makes for a fun time :)

I watched this with some friends, and my god it was hilariously bad. It made no sense on any level. Like, the house floods and explodes from the water pressure, but the streets outside are only under 2 inches of water? WTF. And a shark climbing a rope? I mean, it was funny, but only in a "yell at the movie screen with your friends" sort of way.

. . . and no, I don't think a single moment in that movie is possible in real life. From sharks flying through the air to operating a helicopter two feet from a tornado.

I too totally love horrible syfy movies- they're some of my favorite things to watch on a late Saturday while having a drink with my husband. WE got into the habit when we lived with his Dad and brothers in Florida. His Dad LOVES those movies, and the best part of watching them with him around is that in some cases, he'll be talking about how these things could. actually. happen. Seriously, it's just so effin funny.... haven't seen this one yet, tho....

The ending was my least favorite scene, the hero leaps into the air, jumps into a sharks mouth, then uses a chainsaw to slice through its stomach, before he leaves he goes back into the shark and pulls out a character that was swallowed ten minuets before. There is no way in this world that its possible.

I think the producer's idea was to make one of those 'so bad, it's good!' movies, like many a ridiculous B-movie before.

Sadly, shark week has ended but during one episode of Shark After Dark, they had the 2 main characters on it for interviews, tweeted questions, and stuff about the movie. The part when he pulls the girl out behind Jim reminds me of I think Jaws 2 isn't it? 2 or 3? Hahaha!

As a general rule I can no longer permit myself to watch made-for SyFy channel movie.... I get that they're supposed to be cheesy, but they're just TOO MUCH. If I want to see a cheesy B-flick I'll watch Svengooli. At least the cheesiness there is because they're retro B-films, not kids with wild imaginations and a movie editing/cgi software... :P

I haven't seen it, but I assume that the most entertaining thing about things like this is the sense of "oh my god, I can't believe they actually made this". (Same with Snakes on a Plane.) In which case, there's no reason to actually watch it, since you've already gotten the only entertainment out of it that you can get simply by hearing the name.

Besides the ridiculousness of the whole "sharks in a tornado" concept (why are there no other fish? Why are the sharks still alive? Why are the sharks obsessively eating all the time?) it becomes even more crazy when you consider the guy (a rookie pilot too) who gets his helicopter to hover stock still right on the edge of the twister, with winds over 100mph. I'd defy any pilot to even keep the copter in the air where he was holding it, let alone hover without moving. That annoyed me even more than the whole shark thing.
